Caution
If the ARGUS is not installed correctly, water can penetrate the devi-
ce and damage it. Always install the ARGUS with the sphere poin-
ting downwards.
%
Installation of more than one ARGUS:
Care must be taken to ensure that the rays of the individual detec-
tors overlap in order to guarantee complete surveillance.
&
Wall/ceiling installation:
The sensor head must be turned as indicated for installation on the
ceiling (the direction of rotation can be reversed at the limit stops).
1 Turn the sensor head upwards until it reaches the stop.
2 Then turn the sensor head clockwise as far as it will go.
3 Align the sensor head.
Caution
If the ARGUS is not installed correctly, condensation can damage
the device.
- On sloping ceilings, always mount the ARGUS with the sphere
pointing downwards so that the water can drain away.
- Mount the ARGUS at an angle of inclination between 15° and 90°.
Beyond this the IP 55 protection type is no longer guaranteed.
/
Mounting on inner / outer corners or stationary pipes:
The ARGUS can be mounted on inner / outer corners or stationary
pipes using the mounting angle Item No. 5652 91 / 92 / 93 (optional
accessory). The power cable can be fed into the unit from the rear
through the mounting angle.
(
Mounting the wall terminal box:
Four spacers can be placed on the wall terminal box for inserting a
connecting lead from above into the back of the device.
A
To insert the connecting lead from the back: push the enclosed
grommet over the stripped connecting lead.

The specified ranges refer to average conditions at an installed
height of 2.50 m and therefore represent guideline values. The range
can vary considerably with changing temperatures.
A = Inner safety zone with a surveillance range of 360° and a radius
of approx. 4 m.
B = Central safety zone with a detection angle of 220° and a detec-
tion range of approx. 9 m x 18 m.
C = Outer safety zone with a detection angle of 220° and a detec-
tion range of approx. 16 m x 28 m.

Installation

Danger from electric current:
Installation and electrical connections should only be carried out by
qualified electricians. The country-specific regulations must be follo-
wed.
"
A = Installation height: between 2 m and 3 m, preferably 2.50 m (on
a firm, level substrate).
B = Distance from sources of optical interference: approx. 5-6 m.
C = If the controlled lamp is within the detection range of the
ARGUS, the distance should be at least 5 m. The lamp must be
installed above the ARGUS and not below.
Otherwise use the blanking segments (see ').
§
The ARGUS should be installed at the side of the detection range in
order to ensure optimum detection of all movements.
$
Protected installation site:
The ARGUS has type of protection IP 55. So that the lamp does not
light up on account of ambient influences, the ARGUS should be
installed where it is protected from rain and direct sunlight (the
movement detector can be tripped by rain drops running over the
lens, for example).

B
To insert the connecting lead from below:
- Cut open the enclosed rubber insert in accordance with the
cable width.
- Place the rubber insert into the wall terminal box.
- Push the connecting lead through.
Use the enclosed screws to secure the wall terminal box in the
appropriate place.
)
Electrical connection:
The stripped cables are inserted in the marked terminals (stripped
length = 14 mm). They can also be connected to other consumers.
The outside conductor is inserted in terminal "L".
The neutral conductor is inserted in terminal "N".
The switched outside conductor is inserted in terminal "↓".
Note!
|
Connecting inductive loads:
If inductive loads, such as transformers, relays, contactors and flu-
orescent lamps, are connected in circuit with the ARGUS, this can
give rise to voltage peaks causing the load to be switched on again
(„sustained lighting effect"). The voltage peaks can be reduced by
connecting a capacitor (Art. No. 5428 95) in parallel with the induc-
tive load.
A = ARGUS permanently connected to power supply
The area is constantly surveilled by the ARGUS unit.
B = ARGUS in combination with a two-way switch
Continuous light or automatic activation, depending on the
switch position.
C = ARGUS in combination with an NC contact
ARGUS is constantly on standby. It is switched on for the set
time by pressing the button (power briefly interrupted for 2...3
seconds). The ON time is extended by every subsequent move-
ment.
D = ARGUS in parallel
A group of lamps can be switched by several ARGUS units, pro-
vided that the maximum switching capacity of one unit is not
exceeded. The sensitivity of the units must be reduced. For
