Using Provox Micron HME to close the
tracheostoma for voicing
In order to obtain an airtight seal for speech with a voice prosthe-
sis or surgical speech fistula, press the housing down with a finger.
This will direct the exhaled air through the voice prosthesis. Once
the finger is lifted and the pressure is released the airflow will pass
through Provox Micron HME again (fig 2).
You can also use the device to close the stoma if a pressure increase
of the air in the lungs is needed (e.g. for coughing).
Coughing
Provox Micron HME can be removed during or after coughing if the
stoma needs to be cleaned from mucus. Generally, the attachment
devices in Provox HME System can stay in place during cleaning
of the stoma or during Cassette replacement.
Replacement
Replace Provox Micron HME when needed (fig 3). To ensure its
proper function, the same Cassette should not be used for more than
24 hours (after opening the package). Cassette replacement frequency
is based on individual patient needs.
Storage
Store the device in a clean, dry and dark area at room temperature
(15°C–25°C/60F–80F).
