10.2 Installing the butterfl y valve
10.2.1 Installation between fl anges
CAUTION
Before carrying out any welding on the
G
piping remove the butterfl y valve to
prevent damage to the seat (liner).
1. Shut off plant or plant component.
2. Secure against recommissioning.
3. Depressurize the plant or plant
component.
4. Completely drain the plant (or plant
component) and let it cool down until
the temperature is below the media
vaporization temperature and scalding
can be ruled out.
5. Correctly decontaminate, rinse and
ventilate the plant or plant component.
6. Check fl ange faces for potential
damage!
7. Remove any rough areas (rust, dirt, etc.)
from the pipe fl anges.
8. Suffi ciently spread the pipe fl anges.
9. Do not use any fl ange seals!

10. Clamp the butterfl y valve 1 centred
between pipes with fl anges 2 and 3.
11. Slightly open the butterfl y valve 1. The
disc must not project from the body.

12. Insert bolts 4 in all bolt holes in the
fl ange.
13. Slightly tighten the bolts 4 diagonally.
14. Fully open the disc and check the
alignment of the piping.
15. Tighten bolts 4 diagonally until the
fl anges fi t tightly on the body.
Observe permissible tightening torque of
the bolts.

10.2.2 Installation as end-of-line valve

The wafer type butterfl y valves with fl ange
holes are suitable for use as pipe end
valves.
Protect against leakage!
® Elastomer seat (liner) is pressed out of
position.
When the valve is at the end of a pipe,

a mating fl ange must be fi tted.
Before carrying out any welding on the
G
piping remove the butterfl y valve to
prevent damage to the seat (liner).
The fl ange/the pipe behind the
closed valve can be removed
without diffi culty at the pressure
specifi ed under point 2.
