• If the housing is connected for the first time, the computer will recognise the new hardware.
Simply follow the instructions of Windows.
• To partition and format under Windows XP, the computer administration has to be used (click
"administration" in system control, then "computer administration", "data storage" and at last
"data carriers administration").
• For Windows 98/98SE/ME the MSDOS prompt has to be started in order to partition and
afterwards the programme "FDISK" (enter "fdisk" without inverted commas). The question
that follows regarding the support of large hard disks has to be replied with "Y".
Via menu item "5. Change of present hard disk" the desired hard disk can be selected (don't
select the already existing hard disk!). Afterwards one or several partitions can be created.
Once you leave the "FDISK" program via the menu item "Exit", Windows 98/ME needs to be
rebooted so that the partitions can be recognised.
Formatting the hard disk under Windows 98/98SE/ME is again carried out with the MSDOS
prompt and with the "Format" programme (enter eg "format e:", without inverted commas).
But don't format any already existing partitions, risk of loss of data!
With a simple "dir e:" or "dir f." (without inverted commas) etc., you can check
whether the drive is already formatted (table of contents will appear for already
formatted drives).
