11. Partitioning and Formatting

Please note:
Before you can use the product, the hard disk needs to be partitioned and
formatted.
If you created several partitions, you can only copy the data of the memory cards
to the first partition.
The data can only be copied to a "FAT32" partition. The file format "NTFS" of
Windows XP/2000 is not supported!
With Windows XP a partition with the "FAT32" file system can unfortunately only
be created when the partition has a maximum size of approx. 32Gbyte. Larger
partitions can only be created with the file system "NTFS"; but then it is not
possible to copy the memory cards!
If you want to partition and format, eg a 40Gbyte hard disk in the "FAT32" file
system, you have to created the first partition with 30GB and the second one with
10GB. To save the data of the memory cards, you can only use the first 30GB
partition. The 10GB partition is only available on the computer (it can be
partitioned as "FAT32" or "NTFS" ).
Alternatively, the hard disk can be partitioned with, eg software from third-party
manufactures, that avoid this restriction by Windows XP. Partitioning and
formatting under the operating system Windows ME is an alternative to this.
• Switch your computer on and wait until the operating system is completely booted.
• For Windows 98/98SE you install the driver first, if you have not done it already (see chapter
9), afterward you have to reboot.
For Windows ME/XP the driver must not be installed, since it is already an
integral part of the operating system.
• Connect the round low voltage plug of the plug-in power supply included in delivery with the
low voltage socket on the housing.
• Put the plug-in power supply into a mains socket.
• Put the sliding switch on the side into the "ON" position, the LC display is activated (if the
plug-in power supply is not connected, press " " for a couple of seconds).
• Connect the housing via the USB cable included in delivery with a USB port of your computer.
