The
button  can be released when an acoustic signal sounds to
indicate that the measured value is stable. The main display  indicates
the resistance value of the low resistance measurement. The symbol ">20
" appears in the display if the measured value is greater than 20 .
-
After completing the measurement, reverse the polarity of the test current
by swapping the red and black measuring cables at the measuring point.
-
Repeat the measurement. The measurement result should be the same as
for the first measurement.
-
The purpose of the polarity reversal is to detect corroded contacts which
can cause different measurement results in the two measurements.
See Fig. 4:
Attention: The measurement result can be falsified by the
parallel connected impedance of additional working circuits
and by circulating currents!
8.4 Resistance measurement and continuity testing
-
Make the circuit or test object voltage free.
-
Select the desired function "
-
Connect the black safety measuring cable to the negative socket (-) of the
BENNING IT 100.
-
Connect the red safety measuring cable to the positive socket (+) of the
BENNING IT 100.
-
Connect the safety measuring cables to the measuring point and take the
measurement reading in the display .
-
If an external voltage is present at the test prods, its magnitude is shown in
the display . If the magnitude of the external voltage is 30 V AC/ DC or
greater, a flashing warning symbol " " in the display and an acoustic signal
give additional warning that a dangerous external voltage is present. Make
the circuit voltage free and then repeat the measurement.
-
The measured resistance value is shown in the display .
-
The internal buzzer of the BENNING IT 100 sounds if the resistance
value is less than 30 . The buzzer can be switched on and off with the
button .
-
Resistance values greater than 2000  are indicated in the display  as
"> 2000 ".
See Fig. 5:
Attention: The measurement result can be falsified by the
parallel connected impedance of additional working circuits
and by circulating currents!
8.5 Voltage measurements
-
Select the desired function "V
-
Connect the black safety measuring cable to the negative socket (-) of the
BENNING IT 100.
-
Connect the red safety measuring cable to the positive socket (+) of the
BENNING IT 100.
-
Connect the safety measuring cables to the measuring point and take the
measurement reading on the display .
Voltages greater than 1000 V are shown on the display as > 1000 V.
A flashing warning symbol " " appears in the display  if the voltage rea-
ding is 30 V AC/ DC or greater.
The BENNING IT 100 indicates either a DC (direct) voltage or
an AC (alternating) voltage. If the measured voltage has a DC
component and an AC component, only the component which
has the greater magnitude is indicated. The measured value for
AC (alternating) voltages is derived by mean value rectification
and displayed as r.m.s. value.
See Figs. 6a/ 6b:
8.6 Checking the battery capacity
-
Disconnect the safety measuring cables from the BENNING IT 100.
-
Select the desired function "
-
The battery test takes place automatically with connection of a simulated load.
