Special instructions

1. All equipment of the measuring system must be included in the potential equalisation
(see Page 8).
2. The devices may only be used for fluids against which the wetted materials are suf-
ficiently resistant.
3. The service connector may not be connected in explosive atmospheres.
Special conditions for Zone 21:
The transmitter housing and the connection housing of the remote version may only be
opened if an explosive atmosphere is not present.
Note! Only for Zone 0:
• Due to the aluminium housing used for the transmitter and/or sensor, the device must
be installed in such a way for installations calling for Category II1G devices that igni-
tion sources resulting from impact or friction between the housing and an iron or steel
object are ruled out even in the event of operational malfunctions which seldom occur.
• In Zone 0, explosive steam/air mixtures may only occur under atmospheric conditions.
If no explosive mixtures are present or if additional measures have been taken as per
EN 1127-1, the devices may also be operated outside the atmospheric conditions in
accordance with the specifications of the manufacturer.

General warnings

Warning!
• Installation, connection to the electricity supply, commissioning and maintenance of
the devices must only be carried out by specialist staff trained in explosion protection.
• Any national regulations which may exist with regard to installing the devices in Ex
areas must be observed.
• The manufacturer information on all devices connected to the intrinsically safe circuits
must be taken into account.
• To rotate the transmitter housing, follow the same procedure as for the non-Ex version.
The transmitter housing may also be rotated during operation.
• The continuous service temperature of the cable must correspond at least to the
temperature range of –40 °C to +10 °C over the existing ambient temperature.
• When the Prowirl 72 or Prowirl 73 device is switched into certified, intrinsically safe
circuits of Category ib, Explosion Group IIC, the explosion protection changes to
EEx ib IIC.
• The dielectric strength between the various intrinsically safe circuits must be at least
500 Vrms (affects outputs/inputs: option A).
Only for Zone 21:
• The transmitter housing and the connection housing of the remote version may only
be opened for a brief period. During this period, ensure that no dust penetrates the
electronics housing.
• When closing the transmitter housing and the connection housing of the remote
version, ensure that the housing is firmly sealed to guarantee dust-proofing.
• When deploying the device in Zone 21, the housing seals must be checked, and
replaced if necessary, at regular intervals.
Temperature table for use in Zone 21
For devices for use in Zone 21, the ambient temperature-fluid temperature dependency,
indicated in the temperature table for Zone 1 and Zone 0, applies with the following
restrictions in the ambient temperature, however:
–20 °C ≤ T
≤ 55 °C
a
Surface temperature for devices for use in Zone 21
The surface temperature of the device may not exceed 2/3 of the ignition temperature
of a dust cloud. The maximum surface temperature must observe a safety distance of
75 K from the glow temperature of a dust layer of 5 mm.
Example: configuration of the temperature class T4 (135 °C) is suitable for dust with
an ignition temperature of 202.5 °C (1.5 x 135 °C) and a glow temperature of 210 °C
(135 °C + 75 °C).
