1 COMPONENTS OF ATROSTIM PNS
Most of the components, which are implanted into the patient, are covered with
silicone rubber medical grade. Silicone rubber is extremely resistant to bending,
resistant to stretching, but extremely vulnerable by sharp instruments. These
components should never come into contact with surgical forceps, tweezers or other
instruments with cutting blades or edges. Cutting may cause leakage of body fluids
into the components, which might cause corrosion of wires and electrodes and
malfunction of electronic components. Cuts that may cause leakage may be too small
to be recognized with the naked eye.
The following components of Atrostim Phrenic Nerve Stimulator (PNS) system are
in contact with or are implanted into the patient (Fig. 1) (one side shown only):
