Now, enter the charging mode. There are 4 possible options.
Since the accumulator is only discharged in the DISCHARGE program this menu
item will be skipped in the DISCHARGE case.
LADEMODUS
1. AUTOMATISCH
2. MANUELL I
3. MANUELL I,U,T
4. MANUELL I,U,C
You may choose here between the automatic mode (AUTOMATIC) and the 3 manual
modi. (MANUAL). "Automatic" means that the current level is automatically matched
to the respective condition of the accumulator during the program whereas the cur-
rent level is fixed in the manual mode. Note that charge times can increase in the
automatic mode.
1. Automatic: The charge current is automatically matched by the device to the accu-
mulator
2. Manual I: The current is firmly selected
3. Manual I, U, T: The charge-closing voltage and the maximum charge time are fixed
in addition to the current.
4. Manual I, U, C: The charge-closing voltage and the maximum charging capacity
are fixed in addition to the current.
Note that if charging is done by MANUAL, I, U, T or MANUAL I, U, C the maximum char-
ge time T or the maximum charging capacity C will not necessarily be achieved becau-
se turning off is prematurely possible after the charge-closing voltage U is reached.
Note that if accumulator packs have from 17 to 20 cells the maximum charge current
I which was set possibly will not be achieved. Accumulator packs having from 17 to
20 cells should be charged by MANUAL, I, U, T or MANUAL I, U, C. This is why the
display for setting the charging mode for these cell leaps straight to 4. MANUAL I, U,
C (see Chapter 4. Characteristic features).
For a manual charge, the charge current requires to be selected first. The charge
current may be selected from 250 mA to 3 A.
Charge current I should be chosen to range between C/10 and a maximum of 1,5C.
Make sure here whether the accumulator is rapidly chargeable.

Charging and discharging data
The capacity charged into the accumulator (C) and the capacity drawn from it (D) are
indicated in milliampere-hours (mAh) or ampere-hours (Ah). In the Cycle, Alive, and
Selfdischarge programs, the former data is erased when the accumulator is rechar-
ged or discharged. A capacity for capacitive rechargings (trickle) is neither calculated
nor displayed nor added thereto.
NOTE:
It might possibly happen that a temperature fuse which is installed in accumulator
packs is tripped (e.g. at an elevated temperature or a high charging or discharge cur-
rent). If the temperature fuse installed is a simple bimetal wire contact (which is
moderate in price for the manufacturer) the contact will pause the charging circuit.
This is nothing short of a removal of the accumulator pack so that the charger no lon-
ger identifies this accumulator. After the bimetal contact is automatically reset the
charger will recognize the accumulator again and starts by identifying the accumula-
tor automatically.

5. How to put into operation

In case of need, remove an accumulator which is connected, plug the charger in and
turn it on with the POWER switch at the back of the device. You will then see the dis-
play
CHARGE- TERMINAL
- SELBSTTEST -
on the display for abt. 2 seconds.
This is the period during which the charger carries out a self-test while also verifying
any accumulator that possibly is there. This is necessary to preserve all data in the
memory in case of a current failure (Memory backup).
Now, leave the charger turned in for at least 2 hours to enable the installed goldcap
to be charged to a maximum. This goldcap serves for storing all data for at least 48
hours if the charger is turned out or the current fails. It is understood that the charger
will be fully ready for operation during this period.
If no accumulator is connected there will be a standby message
CHARGE- TERMINAL
OK
If no accumulator is connected to the terminals the menu items below can be selec-
ted via the two SELECT keys (UP and DOWN) and via the ENTER key:
