TUNER
Tuning to Preset Stations
• Press PRESET 4 or 3 (or PREV ¡ or NEXT ™ on
FRONT
the remote control) to select the desired preset

– The preset number, frequency and waveband

0 Record Tape
1 As soon as you press 0 RECORD, the current
sound will be recorded on TAPE 2, provided a
tape suitable for recording is loaded.
2 To stop recording, press 9 (or STOP 9 on the
remote control).
Ç
Receiving RDS radio station
RDS (Radio Data System) is a broadcasting service
that allows FM stations to send additional
information along with the regular FM radio signal.
This additional information can contain:
• STATION NAME : The station name is
displayed.
• FREQUENCY : The frequency of the station is
displayed.
• PROGRAM TYPE : The following program types
exist and can be received by your tuner: News,
Affairs, Info, Sport, Educate, Drama, Culture,
Science, Varied, Pop M, Rock M, M.O.R.
(middle of the road music), Light M, Classics,
Other M, No type.
• RADIO TEXT (RT) : Text messages appear in the
display.

CASSETTE DECK

Tape Playback
1 Press TAPE 1/2 on the unit or on the remote

2 Load the cassette into the desired cassette deck.
3 Press B (or PLAY 2 on the remote control) to
start playback.

Press SIDE on the unit or on the remote control to
change the direction of the play mode.

Press PLAY MODE to select the different type of
play mode (see continuous playback).
4 Press 9 (or STOP 9 on the remote control) to end

playback.
DUBBING
Note : When the tape has stopped playing, the set
will switch to the standby mode automatically after
15 minutes if no button is pressed.
Continuous Playback (only on TAPE 2)
The PLAY MODE enables you to select the different
play modes.
å : recording or playback on one side of the
cassette in the normal or reverse direction.
The tape stops at the end of one side.
∂ : recording or playback on both sides of the
cassette; first in one direction and then in the
reverse direction. The tape then stops.
∫: continuous playback on both sides of the
cassettes up to a maximum of 5 times per
side unless you press 9.
When you have tuned to an RDS station, the RDS
Ç
logo (
) and the station name will appear on the
display:

• The display normally shows the radio station

name if available.
TUNING
By repeatedly pressing RDS MODE you can
change the type of display information:
– The display shows in turn: STATION NAME ->
FREQUENCY -> PROGRAM TYPE -> RADIO
TEXT -> STATION NAME ...
Note : When you press the RDS MODE button and
the display shows "NO RDS", it indicates that either
the tuned station is not transmitting RDS signal or it is
a non RDS station.
RDS Clock
Some RDS station may be transmitting a real time
clock at an interval of every minute.
Setting the time with RDS clock:
1 Press TIMER

2 Press SET CLOCK.
– "00:00" starts flashing.
3 Press the RDS MODE button.
– If the station does not transmit RDS time or if the
RDS button is pressed before the clock time
transmission, the message "NO RDS CLOCK"
appears.
– When the RDS clock is read, the message
"SEARCH RDS CLOCK" appears.
When the RDS clock time appears;
1 Press SET CLOCK once to confirm and store the
new time.
• If you do not wish to store the RDS clock time,
do not press the SET CLOCK, the previous set
time will be retained.
Fast Forward/Rewinding
1 You can rewind or fast forward the tape by
pressing Q or R, (5 or 6 on the remote
control) respectively.
2 Press 9 (or STOP 9 on the remote control) to
stop fast forwarding or rewinding.
Note : It is possible to fast forward or rewind a
cassette when the set is in another source mode
(e.g. TUNER, CD or AUX mode).
Recording from other sources
(TAPE DECK 2)
1 Press TAPE 1/2 to select TAPE 2 .
2 Load a blank cassette into TAPE DECK 2.

Note :
1 Only å or ∂ mode is available during
recording.
2 For CD recording see CD Synchro-start
recording under Compact Disc section.
3 During recording, it is not possible to listen to
another sound source.

Loading a cassette
• Press

• The cassette compartment door opens.
• Load the cassette with the open side downward and the full spool to the left.
– The deck automatically selects the tape type (NORMAL or CHROME
(CrO2).
• Close the cassette compartment door.
CASSETTE DECK
Dubbing cassettes
(from DECK 1 to DECK 2)
1 Load the pre-recorded cassette into TAPE DECK
1 and a blank cassette into TAPE DECK 2.
– Make sure that both cassettes have their full
spools to the left.
2 Press SIDE to select the front side of the tape in
TAPE DECK 2.
3 Press DUBBING and then press Q or R for
respective dubbing speed mode.
– NORMAL (normal speed) or FAST (high speed)
appears on the display.

4 Press DUBBING again to start recording.
PRESET
– The
flag starts flashing.

5 Press 9 to stop dubbing.
Notes :
– At the end of side A, flip the cassettes to side B
and repeat the procedure.
– Dubbing of cassettes is only possible in the TAPE
2 mode. To ensure good dubbing, use tapes of
the same length.
– During high speed dubbing in Tape mode, the
sound is reduced to a low volume.
– You can listen to other sound source while
dubbing.
General Information
– For recording, use only a cassette of IEC type I
VOLUME
(normal cassette) or IEC type II (Chrome). The
respective cassette type is selected
automatically.
– The tape in the cassette is secured at both ends
with a leader tape. At the beginning and end of
a cassette, nothing will be recorded for six to
seven seconds.
– The recording level is set automatically,

regardless of the position of VOLUME.
3 -STE REO
– Check and tighten slack tape with a pencil
before use. Slack tape may get jammed or may
burst in the mechanism.
B NR
– To prevent accidental recording, break out the
tab on the left shoulder of the cassette side you
want to protect. To re-record the cassette, cover
each hole with cellophane tape. Do not cover
the Chrome tape detection hole when covering
the tab opening.

TAPE
1
– C-120 tape is extremely thin and may be easily
deformed or damaged. It is not recommended
for use in this unit.
– Store the cassettes at room temperature and do
not put them too close to a magnetic field (for
example, transformers, TVs or speakers).

The Dolby B NR System is manufactured under

tion. The word Dolby and the

Notes:
– A tape recorded with the Dolby B NR system
should also be played in the Dolby B NR mode.
If you forget to operate the DOLBY NR button,
the treble may be reproduced too strongly or too

faintly.
– The

B NR button has no influence during
dubbing (dubbing from TAPE 1 to TAPE 2). An
original tape recorded with Dolby B NR auto-
matically produces a copy with Dolby B NR.
