3. connections And getting stArted

Attention! Incorrect handling of battery and charger has a po-
tential dangers. Make sure that all preparations for charging have
been carried out correctly.
• Before using the device, please check all cables and the device for damage.
Never operate the unit if the installation of the mains cable or the charging
cable is squashed, split or otherwise damaged.
• Before charging, be sure that the voltage of the battery is 12 V.
• Explosive gases can be emitted from the battery and will accumulate near the
ground. Do not place the charger directly on the ground or near the battery.
Ensure that the room is sufficiently ventilated during the charging process.
• When charging batteries that are not maintenance free, make sure that they
are removed from the vehicle for charging, as a malfunction could damage
the vehicle. Carefully follow the manufacturer's instructions for removing the
battery. Sulphuric acid is highly corrosive and therefore constitutes serious
source of danger.
• When charging batteries that are not maintenance free, make sure that the
water input lids are open all the battery is ventilated and that the fluid levels
are regularly checked. Allow the battery to vent a few minutes before con-
necting the charger. When checking the fluid levels wear protective clothing
and glasses, as the acid can cause serious chemical burns and damage your
health. If the acid level is too low, the battery must be filled up to the appro-
priate filling level.
• Lay all cables so that there is no risk of tripping or damage to the cables.
Make sure that the cables are not squeezed or cut by closing doors or covers
of engine parts.
• If the battery contacts are difficult to access, or of the clamps of the charger
come into contact with adjacent components, the battery must be removed
for charging . Manufacturer's instructions for removing the battery must be
followed.
• Make sure that the charger is not connected to the mains socket before con-
necting it to the battery.
