5. Handling and commissioning

5.1 Use in 5.1 Use in
The following components are required for using the eCOM Box in development:
eCOM Box
USB-to-LAN converter to connect to a PC (alternatively an ethernet cable),
eCOM OBD cable or eCOM Part F IP to connect to a vehicle or control units and for power
supply to the eCOM Box,
optionally a D-SUB 9 adapter cable to connect a CAN-Monitoring-Tool to the eCOM.
The eCOM Box is supplied with power via the OBD cable or Part F IP. This supplies the
microcontroller of the eCOM Box as well as the galvanically insulated line driver with
voltage. The optional plug-in mains adapter is not required.
The plug-in mains adapter can, however, be used in addition to the mandatory supply via
the eCOM OBD cable or eCOM Part F IP to prevent rebooting of the eCOM Box
microcontroller when the supply voltage at the vehicle interface is disconnected (eCOM
OBD cable or eCOM Part F IP).
5.2 Use in
The following components are required for using the eCOM box in production:
eCOM Box
USB-to-LAN converter to connect to a PC (alternatively an ethernet cable)
eCOM OBD cable or eCOM Part F IP to connect to a vehicle or control units and for power
supply to the galvanically insulated line drivers of the eCOM Box
P lug-in mains adapter for permanent supply of the eCOM Box even at vehicle change (to
prevent reboots at vehicle change)
optionally the D-SUB 9 adapter cable to connect a CAN-Monitoring-Tool to the eCOM
Using the plug-in mains adapter prevents the microcontroller of the eCOM Box from
rebooting at every vehicle change (disconnecting and plugging in the OBD plug). The
galvanically insulated electronics of the eCOM Box vehicle side can only be supplied with
voltage via the vehicle interface (OBD cable or Part F IP). If this supply is missing, vehicle
communication is not possible even with the plug-in mains adapter plugged in.
