4.3 Protective filter

To protect the optical fiber connected to the device and downstream devices from damage
due to heat and ultraviolet radiation, a protective filter is integrated in the device (Figure 2
[4]). Figure 4 shows the transmission characteristic of the protective filter in the lamp. If the
filter glass of the protective filter is damaged, it can be replaced by the user (see „6.2
Spare parts and accessories"). To replace the glass, the protective filter must be pulled out
of the device. This can be done after removing the housing cover (Figure 1[1]) (see „4.2
Installing and changing the lamp").
Never use the device with a damaged or unsuitable protective filter or without a
protective filter because the connected optical fiber and downstream devices can
be damaged or destroyed.

4.4 Connecting the optical fiber

Always connect the output end of the optical fiber to the target system at first; this prevents
hazard to which the user would be exposed due to the high-energy light emitted by the
Compact Light Source HXP 120 V. Connect the input of the optical fiber to the light output
at the rear of the compact light source (Figure 5[1]). The fiber should latch audibly. Only an
optical fiber with light inlet of the type „Storz long" can be used, otherwise the device can
suffer damage and the user injury (by dazzling). Before you switch on the device, check
again to make sure that the optical fiber is pushed in properly to the latching point.
