Orbea recommends not installing headset spacers above the stem on forks with a carbon steerer tube. Putting spacers above
the stem can cause the steerer expander inside the fork tube to be positioned above the lower limit of the stem, which can
strain materials beyond their intended use, potentially causing accidents and serious injuries.
If you need to change the position of the stem on the fork and to do so you are using over-stem headset spacers, Orbea rec-
ommends, once the stem is in its final position, to always cut the fork tube and reposition the expander to avoid using over-
stem spacers.
Maximum number of headset spacers.
Check the maximum number of headset spacers that your Orbea model with HS01 headset allows. Do not install more
spacers than specified for the model.
When installing spacers, make sure that the length of the fork steerer tube is sufficient to allow the correct and safe mounting
of the stem and that the length of the cables allows it. The top edge of the fork tube should be above the top clamping bolt on
the stem.
To remove or add headset spacers you need to loosen and reinstall the stem. For mounting instructions and tightening tor-
ques for OC stems, please refer to the dedicated section of this manual.
The OC stem manifold is not a headset spacer, and must always be mounted on the headset. It is possible to remove all head-
set spacers to achieve the lowest possible stem position, but the stem manifold must remain installed between the stem and
the frame's headset cap.
The distance between the top end of the fork steerer tube and the stem preload cap installation surface should be at least 3
mm to allow for proper headset preloading.
