Behaviour in case of gas odour or suspec-
ted leakage
Danger of suffocation!
The heater must not be used for heating living spaces
and in unventilated rooms.
The combustion and ventilation air supply must not be
obstructed. Adequate ventilation must be provided to
meet the combustion air requirements of the heater
in use.
Inadequate ventilation will result in inadequate
combustion. Improper combustion can result in carbon
monoxide poisoning, which can cause serious injury
or death.
Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning can include
headaches, dizziness and difficulty breathing.
Liquefied petroleum gas and natural gas have artificial
odours that are used specifically to detect gas leaks.
If a gas leak occurs, you should be able to smell the
fuel gas. Since propane (LP) gas is heavier than air,
you should be able to detect the smell of gas near the
ground. ANY SMELL OF GAS IS YOUR SIGNAL TO ACT
IMMEDIATELY!
Do not take any action that could ignite the fuel gas.
Do not operate any electrical switches. Do not pull on
power cords or extension cords. Do not light matches
or other flame sources. Do not use your telephone.
Move all persons out of the building and away from the
area immediately. Close the valve of the gas bottle!
Propane (LP) gas is heavier than air and can settle in
low areas. If you have reason to suspect a propane
leak, stay away from all low areas. Use your neighbour's
phone and call your gas supplier and fire service. Do
not re-enter the building or area.
Leave the building and stay out of the area until the fire
service and your gas supplier declare the area safe.
Finally, have the gas service and fire service check for
leaking gas. Have them ventilate the building and area
before you return. Properly trained service personnel
must repair any leaks, check for further leaks and then
relight the appliance for you.
