Filling the system with water
8.
Open the catheter pouch at the perforated line. Whilst the catheter is still in
the pouch connect the click tube to the catheter - when you hear a click, it is
connected. Take the catheter out without touching the hydrophilic coating.
9.
Attach the empty pouch to a surface using the sticky area on the back of the
pouch.
10. Turn the control unit to position 1.
11.
Hold the pump with the control unit pointing upwards (11a) and open the valve on
the water bag tube (11b). Squeeze the pump until it is full of water so that no air is
left and water comes out of the catheter (11c).
12. Pause the system by turning the control unit to the dot position between 1 and 2.
13. Hold the catheter under the tap or dip it in water up to its base for a few seconds
to activate the hydrophilic coating. The system is now ready for use.

14. Sit on or over the toilet. If required, fasten the control unit to your thigh or wheelchair,
using the fixation straps.
15. Carefully insert the catheter into the rectum, supporting the catheter at its base.
16. Turn the control unit clockwise to position 2. Squeeze the pump two to three times
(maximum of five complete pumps) to inflate the balloon with water (16a) until the
catheter holds in the rectum by itself (16b). Your healthcare professional will advise
you on this.
17.
Turn the control unit clockwise to position 3. Water can now be instiled into the bowel.
If the water bag is hanging, you can either pump the water into the bowel or you can let
the water flow into the bowel using gravity. If the water bag is placed lower than the toilet
seat, squeeze the pump to instil water into the rectum. If you need to stop the flow turn
the control unit to the dot between 3 and 4. To resume irrigation, turn the control unit
back to position 3.
18. The amount of water flowing into the bowel can be monitored by using the scale on
the water bag. Your healthcare professional will guide you regarding the amount of
water to use for your irrigation. A general guide is 500 ml (this will vary for children)
however this may be more or less depending on your requirement. If you feel any
discomfort, do not instil more water into the bowel. Stop the flow by turning the
control unit to the dot between 3 and 4.
19. When you have instiled the required amount of water into the bowel, turn the control
11a
unit clockwise to position 4. The balloon will now deflate and the catheter can be
carefully removed from the rectum. Water and faecal matter will now be expelled. If
