Tuning buttons; used to tune in a station manually, and
carry out a station search.
Press one of these button briefly to increase or decrease
the reception frequency by 25 kHz. This facility allows
you to tune in a station accurately when reception
conditions are very difficult, or the station is very weak.
You can check the accuracy of tuning using the tuning
indicator on the left-hand side of the display. The station
is tuned in correctly when the cross symbol is in the
centre position; it will now be received as well as
possible.
If you hold a tuning button pressed in for a longer
period (approx. 1 second), the tuner initiates a station
search in the downward or upward direction, according to
the button selected. The search stops automatically at
the next station broadcasting a strong signal, and tunes it
in accurately. If you release the tuning button at this
point, then the tuner stays on this station. If you press
and hold again, the search resumes after about a
second.
The search can be interrupted at any time by briefly pres-
sing the other tuning button (opposite direction).
Pressing any tuning button (
activates the preset you were listening to most recently.
Adjustment of display brightness
By pressing the
button repeatedly you can adjust
the brightness of the tuner's screen to suit your personal
preference. Three levels are available:
1. Normal setting:
Good legibility even in daylight and sunshine
2. Darkened:
Restrained setting, for locations with subdued lighting
3. Display switched off:
The display is completely switched off
If brightness level 2 or 3 is selected, the display is acti-
vated and switched to normal brightness briefly every
time you operate a control. This makes it possible to
check the settings even from a distance.
After about 4 seconds the screen switches back
automatically to the selected brightness value. One effect
of this arrangement is that a newly selected brightness
value only becomes effective after a delay of about 4
seconds.

A long press on the button switches between RDS mode
and a display of transmitter field strength. In the normal
setting (RDS) every time you change stations the trans-
mitter frequency and the tuning indicator appear in the
display. A few seconds after you have tuned in the
station accurately, the name of the RDS station appears
in the display - provided that the station is broadcasting
RDS information.
While the field strength display is in use the screen
remains at normal brightness,
