Description for Ventricular
Catheters
The Ventricular Catheters are
designed for diverting fluid from
the ventricles through a series of
drainage holes near the catheter
tip. The catheters can be inserted
into the ventricular cavity with the
stainless steel stylet. A trocar is sup-
plied with the catheters to facilitate
subcutaneous tunneling away from
the burr hole. The external portion
of the catheter may be secured to
the scalp by the suture collar.
All external ventricular catheters
have markings from 3 to 15 cm ±
1.5 mm with numbers located at
odd markings and dots located at
even markings. All catheters have
a radiopaque tip.
The luer connector supplied with
each ventricular catheter set will
connect the catheter to any Integra
External Drainage System. The INS-
8220 and INS-0001 catheters are
barium impregnated and the INS-
4000, INS-4500 and INS-8420 are
barium striped for radiopacity.

MOLDED TIP
The 80cm barium impregnated
silicone lumbar catheter has an
open tip and is cut at an angle
(INS-8330). The INS-5010 has a
closed radiopaque tip and is sup-
plied with a Teflon® coated stain-
less steel guide wire and end stop
for assisting catheter placement.
Approximately 18mm of the tip is
multiperforated to help improve
flow and decrease the possibility of
obstruction. Designed for diverting
fluid from the lumbar subarachnoid
space, the catheter can be inserted
with a Tuohy needle using percuta-
neous techniques. The external por
tion of the catheter is secured to the
subcutaneous tissue in the lumbar
area by the suture collar.
The 14G stainless steel Tuohy needle
with Huber tip and Teflon® coated
guide wire allow for ease of inser-
tion and placement.
The flexible luer adapter with stain-
less steel tip allows connection of
the catheter to an external drainage
system. Strain relief tubing is also
included for use if desired to inhibit
kinking of the lumbar catheter at
the connector.
Two suture collars may be wrapped
around the catheter and may be
anchored in place with a suture.
A 22G blunt needle is provided to
flush the catheter to assess patency
