THE FEED GEAR BOX
(Pig. V) has two horizontal shafts above the gear arm (V:74, V:75).
The drive:
Takes place from the drilling spindle shaft via simple gearing (V:72) to the entering
worm gear, which has a vertical screw (V:71).
The upper shaft:
(V:74) carries the worm gear of the screw (V:76) and four freerunning change gears
(V:77) and includes the gearing mechanism (see below).
The lower shaft:
(V:75) has four firm change gears (V:78), which are always meshing the gears on the
upper shaft. The gear arm (II:21) is driven via an out-going worm gear (V:79) and a
magnetic clutch.
Functioning of the feed gear box:
The gears on the upper shaft can be individually engaged with one, for each gear,
built-in ball catch in the shaft. The catch consist of a steel ball, running in a radially
directed hole in the shaft straight opposite the respective gear hub. Each hub has
three recesses where the ball can be pushed up. In the centre of the shaft is a
longitudinally movable piston (V:80). One end of the piston has cogs, which mesh in
the gear (V:81) of the adjustment handwheel (III:44). When the piston is moved
between various fixed positions it pushes a steel ball into the recess of the
resspective gear and locks it and a gear is engaged. Simultaneously the other balls
fall in towards the centre of the shaft and leave the corresponding gears free.
ERECTION AND BOLTING
In order to utilize the good qualities and precision of the machine it is necessary tht it
is erected on a solid ground, for instance a level concrete foundatiori, and that the
machine is firmly bolted. A soft layer of rubber or the like should be placed between
the base plate of the machine and the foundation.
Connection
Before the machine is connected, check that the correct voltage is available. The
motor is of a single voltage type and the machine must consequently be supplied
with a motor for the connection voltage. The machine is supplied with a no-volt and
overload release. In case current interruption re-setting by push bottons (II:45) has to
be done.
