4. Get to Know Your Bike
4.09 Hydraulic disc brakes
The Veloretti Two has a hydraulic disc brake system from the brand Shimano® or Tektro®. This system is high in performance and ensures
excellent braking power.
Break-in the disc brakes
To make optimal use of the Electric Two, it's important to break in the braking pads upon arrival and before use. See steps in chapter 3.06,
Break-in disc brakes.
While breaking in the brakes, the resin on the braking pads gets so hot that it will melt. This leaves a thin resin layer on the brake
discs, which ensures better operation and, thus, safe braking and a longer lifespan.
Squeaking brakes?
When the brakes start squeaking after a couple of months, you have to check if the brake pads' thickness is still in good condition. The
brake pads must be replaced when the brake pad is only 0.5 mm thick. If not, you have to replace it. A local bike shop will have new brake
pads. The squeaking is caused by pollution (e.g. oil/grease) or glazing of the brake pads.
Brake bleeding
The brakes must be bled once a year so the brake pressure is optimal. You can do this by yourself or at a local bike shop.
Brake bleeding is removing any air bubbles from a hydraulic system and replacing old brake fluid. Over time, hydraulic disc brake
systems take in air, affecting performance and lever feel. So even if the brakes don't feel spongy, it's worth bleeding your brakes
annually to keep the fluid fresh.
1. Brake levers
Be aware that the right brake lever on the handlebar is to
brake the bike's rear wheel. The left brake lever is to brake
the front wheel. Always be very careful of using the front
brake to slow done. The front brake can quickly slow the
bike and transport almost all the weight to the front wheel.
When the weight shift is very high, it can cause the bike to
tilt forward.
2. Callipers and brake pads
3. Brake disc
Don't touch the brake disc on the surface. Any grease on
the brake disc can cause poor performance of your brake
system. Disk brakes can easily be cleaned with brake disc
cleaner and some cloth.
Remember that braking distances are often longer in damp
or wet conditions, Extra care should always be taken in
adverse weather conditions.
Your electric bikes brakes are more powerful than the
electric motor. In dangerous situations, stop pedalling and
gently brake to come to a stop in a safe place.
During intense use, your electric bikes hydraulic disc brake
may become hot, Be careful, as this may result in a loss of
braking efficiency
Do not touch the calipers or disc brake rotor while riding, immediately after dismounting from the bicycle or spinning the wheel
during repairs. The disc brake rotor is sharp enough to inflict severe injury to your fingers if caught within the openings of moving
rotor.
