1. Normal Use
This product is used for fast transfer of sound files into the Märklin mSD sound decoders 60945,
60946, 60947, 60948, and 60949. Other settings and programming for these decoders are done with the
60213/60214 or 60215 Central Station.

• Warning! This product has sharp edges and points related to its function.
3. Important Information
The operating instructions are a component part of the product and must therefore be kept with the
product, particularly when it is given to another party.

Programmer: Input max. 18 volts DC, min. 18 VA
6. Requirements for Use:
• PC with an Internet connection and 55 MB of free memory for the Tool
• Free memory of 1 GB
• Free USB connection
• FTDI driver software (virtual COM port driver from FTDI chip)
• Windows XP or newer and decompression software
• Switched mode power pack max. 18 volts DC, min. 18 VA, example: Märklin 66365 (make sure of the
polarity of the plug)

6.1 Preparations:
Load the current VCP driver (www.ftdichip.com -> Drivers -> VCP Drivers) from the manufacturer for your
operating system and decompress it in a folder on your personal computer.
Using your Central Station, check the firmware for the Märklin mSD sound decoder to be used. The de-
coder firmware should be 1.9.15 and the sound firmware should be 1.15 or higher. Update the firmware on
the decoder if necessary. This test and updating the firmware can only be done with the Central Station
using
(Configuration) /
Update.
Connect the sound programmer to the switched mode power pack; the red LED will light up. Connect the
USB cable included with the sound programmer to a free USB connection on the personal computer.
Windows will now search for the driver and will indicate to you the folder for the VCP driver that has been
decompressed previously.
Now download the decoder tool from the Märklin factory website (Produkte ->Tools & Downloads ->mDe-
coderTool

tool on your personal computer. Now call up the stored setup file: mDecoderTool-v100-Setup.msi and
begin the installation. Follow the installation instructions. You'll find the following folders on the C drive:
C:\Programme\Maerklin\mDecoderTool*(program folder); in it are the program files and templates for the mLD
and mSD decoders. The subfolders mDecoderTool and Sound Library are under C:\Documents and Settings\
User Name\Own Files \Maerklin.*
