5.12 Function decoder mode
In the operating mode "function decoder", the motor outputs do not respond to the speed step, but
to the function entered into CV49, depending on the direction of travel. The factory setting of this
value is 0, i.e. the motor outputs respond to the function 0. This is typically the light function.
In the function decoder mode, the motor outputs change the polarity depending on the direction of
travel, so that LEDs with series resistors switched in parallel can be connected to the orange and to
the grey cable. In this operating mode, the motor output is dimmable; the corresponding dim value
is entered into CV120. The factory setting of this value is 255, "not dimmed" Thus, in the function
decoder mode, functions can be connected to the motor outputs of the decoder (grey and orange
cable) which are to respond depending on the direction of travel. A typical example of such a
function is a control car with direction-dependent front light is shown on Abb.3 and Abb.4 on page 5.
To activate the function decoder mode, set Bit 5(4) in CV50. For safety reasons, this change can
be carried out ONLY on the programming track. This setting is NOT changed by resetting the
decoder to the factory setting (CV8 = 33), i.e. all factory settings EXCEPT the above-mentioned bit
are reset. Resetting to factory settings does not change the operating mode.
5.13 RailCom
The decoder is equipped with the RailCom function. In addition to the locomotive address, other
data (e.g. speed, CV content) can be transmitted from the locomotive via the track back to the
system. The information sent is received by a RailCom detector and then displayed. Bit 4 in CV29 is
set to enable the transmission function.
6 Programming the decoder
The locomotive address, acceleration and deceleration delay, and all other features of the
locomotive decoder can be changed as often as desired by reprogramming the decoder. The
