Connection and starting

Important:
Should you intent to use the ELAC complete active subwoofer as a subwoofer alone,
-- without satellite speakers --, you can skip this chapter and continue with chapter 3.
1
SAT OUT L
2
SAT OUT R
The spring-type terminals SAT OUT L/R allow the connection of 2 satellite speakers
(Left, Right) to the ELAC complete active subwoofer. Here you can use the included
speaker cables, which lead to the satellites.
Of course you can use other cables than the included ones. During cable insertion into
the cross-hole please take some care in order to avoid short circuit against the
neighbouring clamp or the housing. Typical HQ speaker cables today have 2.5 mm²
cross-sections. 1.5 mm² types are sufficient without serious losses up to about 6 me-
ters (20 feet) with 4-Ohm speakers, and up to 12 meters (40 feet) with 8-Ohm speak-
ers.
The satellite speakers used should have "Nominal Impedance" not below 4 Ohms (3
Ohms minimum). The impedance specification you should find printed on the rear side
of the speaker or the owners manual.
Note:
Especially suited as satellite speakers are ELAC 301.2, ELAC 301.2 XL and ELAC Starlet.
These are available together with ELAC MicroSUB 2010.2 in combination sets:
These combinations are perfectly tuned 2.1 speaker systems that guarantee great music pleasure at
minimum space.
But the ELAC complete active subwoofer is also suited for every other satellite speaker.
The internal filtering of lowest frequencies (<80 Hz) saves the satellite speakers from unnecessary load
in favour of a more efficient and effortless reproduction of mid and high parts of the frequency spec-
trum.
!!! Caution !!!
These Connections are "Outputs", not "Inputs".
They are suited solely for connection of passive loudspeakers. Connection to an amplifier output could
result in – worst case - damage to the active subwoofer and/or the amplifier!!!
3 LINE INPUT L and R

4 AUX INPUT

Unbalanced 3.5 mm phone jack stereo input: This is the so called AUX input, which is es-
pecially suitable for sources with a low output level such as headphone outputs from mp3-
players, notebook PCs, small radios etc. Especially for these sources, the input sensitivity
of this input is higher than from the RCA input.
Sources which are connected to this input are mixed together with the signals coming from
the inputs 3.), 6.) and 7.).
Unbalanced RCA stereo input: This is the standard input for all common analog
sources in the consumer electronics field. Here you can connect the source by
means of the RCA cable ("I", see chapter 18) which is part of the accessory kit.
Sources which are connected to this input are mixed together with the signals
coming from the inputs 4.), 5.), 6.) and 7.).
