• Collect samples from locations that are sufficiently distant from points of chemical additions to the
process stream.
• Make sure that the samples are sufficiently mixed.
• Make sure that all chemical reactions are complete.
3.6.4 Sample requirements
The water from the sample source(s) must agree with the specifications in
Keep the sample flow rate and operating temperature as constant as possible for best performance.
3.6.5 Plumb the sample lines
Explosion hazard. Use only the supplied regulator from the manufacturer.
1. Connect the sample lines as follows:
a. Identify the sample inlet and the sample bypass drain for Channel 1.
For analyzers with an enclosure, refer to
For analyzers without an enclosure, refer to
b. Use the supplied tubing cutter to cut a piece of 6 mm OD (smaller) tubing for the sample inlet
line. Make sure that the tube length is sufficiently long to connect the sample inlet to the
sample source. Keep the sample inlet line as short as possible.
c. Use the supplied tubing cutter to cut a piece of 6 mm OD (smaller) tubing for the sample
bypass line. Make sure that the tube length is sufficiently long to connect the sample bypass
drain to an open chemical drain.
Note: As an alternative, use ¼-in. OD tubing and tubing adapters (6 mm to ¼-in. OD) to plumb the sample
inlet line(s) and sample bypass line(s).
d. Push the tubes into the sample inlet and sample bypass drain. Push the tubes in 14 mm
(0.55 in.) to make sure that the tubes are pushed to the stop.
e. Do step 1 again for another channel(s) as necessary.
For analyzers with an enclosure, refer to
and sample bypass drain for each channel.
For analyzers without an enclosure, refer to
inlet and sample bypass drain for each channel.
2. To keep the enclosure rating, install the supplied, red plugs in the sample inlets and sample
bypass drains that are not used.
Do not install a red plug in the DIPA exhaust port.
3. Connect the sample inlet lines to the optional heat exchanger if the temperature difference
between the samples is more than 15 °C (27 °F). Refer to the documentation supplied with the
heat exchanger for instructions.
4. Install a pressure regulator on each sample inlet line. For analyzers with an enclosure, refer to
Figure
14.
For analyzers without an enclosure, refer to
5. Make sure that the water pressure to the pressure regulator is less than 6 bar (87 psi) or a
blockage at the pressure regulator can occur.
6. Install a shut-off valve on each sample inlet line before the pressure regulator.
7. If the sample turbidity is more than 2 NTU or the sample contains iron particulates, oil or grease,
install a 100 um filter on each sample inlet line. Refer to Replacement parts and accessories in
the maintenance and troubleshooting manual for ordering information.
8. Connect each sample line to a sample source.
