6. SETUP
6.1. REPLACING THE BATTERIES
Make sure you have read and understood the contents of
Chapter 2. Safety before replacing the battery/batteries.
The ProTac headset requires two AA batteries to operate.
NOTE: The headset will indicate low battery level with an
audio message.
Procedure to replace batteries:
J:1 Detach the latch with your fingers.
J:2 Open the cup.
J:3 Insert or replace the batteries. Make sure the polarity
corresponds to the markings.
J:4 Close the cup and lock the latch.

7. FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

Inspect the hearing protector before each use. If
damaged, select an undamaged hearing protector or
avoid the noisy environment.
7.1. HEADBAND
G:1 Slide out the cups and tilt the top of the shell out, as
the cable must be on the outside of the headband.
G:2 Adjust the height of the cups by sliding them up or
down while holding the headband in place.
G:3 The headband should be positioned across the top of
the head as shown and should support the weight of the
headset.
7.2. CARRIER ATTACHMENT
G:7 Insert the carrier attachment in the slot on the carrier
and snap it into place (G:8).
G:9 Work mode: Press the headband wires inwards until
you hear a click on both sides. Make sure that the cups
and the headband wires do not press on the edge of the
carrier when in work mode as this could reduce the noise
attenuation of the earmuff.
G:10 Ventilation mode: To switch the unit from work mode
to ventilation mode, pull outward on the ear cups until you
hear a click. Avoid placing the cups against the carrier
(G:11) as this prevents ventilation.
8. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
8.1. SWITCHING THE HEADSET ON AND OFF
Press and hold the On/Off/Mode button (F:9). A voice
message will confirm.
8.2. ADJUST VOLUME FOR AMBIENT
LISTENING
Press the + or the – button to adjust the volume for
ambient listening. There are five volume levels, where the
lowest level is on mute.
8.3. LISTENING VIA THE 3.5 MM EXTERNAL
INPUT JACK
Connect an external device via the 3.5 mm input jack
using a 3.5 mm cable (purchase separately). Adjust the
sound level on the external device.
8.4. AUTOMATIC POWER OFF
The unit will automatically power off after four hours of
inactivity. This is indicated by a voice message,
"automatic power off" followed by a series of short tones,
then the unit will power off.

9. PRODUCT LIFETIME

It is recommended that you replace your product within 5
years from date of manufacture. The lifetime of the
product will be highly dependent on the environment in
which the product is stored, used, serviced, and
maintained. The user must regularly inspect the product
to determine when it has reached its end of life.
Examples that the product may have reached its end of
life are:
• Visible defects such as cracks, deformations, loose or
missing parts.
• Experience of a deterioration in the hearing protector's
attenuation performance, strange noise or abnormal
high sound volumes from the product's electronic
sound reproduction.
NOTE: Product lifetime does not include batteries.

10. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

• Carry out a visual battery condition check (see figure
J:3). Replace if battery leakage or defects are
detected.
• Use a cloth wetted with soap and warm water to clean
the outer shells, headband and ear cushions.
NOTE: Do NOT immerse the hearing protector in water. If
the hearing protector gets wet from rain or sweat, turn the
earmuffs outwards, remove the ear cushions and foam
liners, and allow to dry before reassembly. The ear
cushions and foam liners may deteriorate with use and
should be examined at regular intervals for cracking or
other damage. When used regularly, 3M recommends
replacing the foam liners and ear cushions at least twice
a year to maintain consistent attenuation, hygiene, and
comfort. If an ear cushion is damaged, it should be
replaced. See Spare Parts Section below.
