F u n c t i o n a l d e s c r i p t i o n
The precision high-voltage power supplies of the Heinzinger PNC series are
primary switching power supplies whose primary-side input current is limited to a
period of 500 ms after the unit is switched on. To generate the high voltage, the
rectified mains voltage is converted to rectangular alternating current of approx.
30 kHz and feeded into a high-voltage transformer. Afterwards the voltage is
multiplied and rectified in a subsequent multi-stage converter cascade. The
generated high voltage is corrected in a high-voltage filter. The output voltage and
current is regulated by a special regulator that controls the power flow using a
pulse width modulator. Depending on the load the units operate as constant
current or constant voltage sources; regulation modes are toggled automatically.
Output voltage and current are set using a precision 10-turn potentiometer or a
control voltage that is fed in at the analogue interface. The high voltage applied at
the output refers to the unit's earth. The output polarity is dependant from the
type of unit and/or the setting of the optional reverse pole switch. The discharged
peak current is limited to 500 times the nominal output current. All units are also
sustained short circuit-resistant and inverse voltage resistant up to the nominal
voltage. To allow a compact design and long-lasting stability units > 10 kV are
equipped with a encapsulated high-voltage cascade. The high voltage power
supply is switched on and off by pressing the HV key at the unit or via remote
control of the analogue interface. For high-voltage output Heinzinger HV sockets
are built in.
In addition a number of customer specific modifications are available, which are
not shown in the block diagram above (pls. refer to chapter Appendix).
