In addition to the system partition, a system volume also always contains a DATA partition as one of its visible partitions.
For systems with two drive volumes, the second volume contains an additional DATA partition.
To distinguish between the two DATA partitions, an underscore "_" and three additional characters are added to their names.
The following character is either an "H" (huge) or an "S" (small) which describes the relative size of the volumes.
The next two characters provide information on whether the DATA partition is located on the system volume (01) or on the
pure data volume (02).
Example:
When using the SATA SSD as system volume, a drive combination of 1 TB HDD raid 1 volume and a 480 GB SATA SSD has data
partition DATA_S01 on the system volume and DATA_H02 on the data-only volume.
Note
Risk of data loss
Changing the size of system and data partitions can result in problems when restoring the restore images and thus in a loss of
all data on the drives.
Do not change the size of the system and data partitions.

Setting the Maximum Transmission Unit

For PCS 7 operation, the size of the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) for IPv4 is set from 1500 bytes to 1494 bytes. This
setting is necessary for use of the "Parallel Redundancy Protocol" (PRP) in connection with IPv4. On the USB stick, you will find
auxiliary programs and a description for adjusting the MTU setting of your system in the folder "Additional_Products\MTU".

Enabling/disabling time synchronization

Time synchronization with an Internet server is enabled in the Control Panel.
When time synchronization is enabled, an entry may be generated in the event display. This entry can be cleared by disabling
time synchronization.
1. Select "Control Panel > Date and Time > Internet time" tab
2. Disable the option "Synchronize with an Internet time server".
3. Confirm your entries.
Before entering the device into a domain, you should enable time synchronization once again. You can find information on
this in the section: Entering a SIMATIC Industrial PC in a domain (Page 19).

Interfaces and connections

Ethernet interfaces
The Ethernet interfaces in the device are preset to DHCP. If you are not running a DHCP server, configure the IP addresses
manually.
For PCS 7, it is recommended to use the Ethernet interfaces as follows:
Onboard Ethernet interface "X1P1": Terminal bus 1
Onboard Ethernet interface "X2P1": Reserve
Interfaces and connections
SIMATIC IPC647D can be ordered in two versions that differ in regard to the available PCI Express slots on the motherboard.
The following therefore distinguishes between the two types based on the number of available PCI Express slots:
SIMATIC IPC647D with 4 x PCI Express: Referred to as Type 1 in the following
SIMATIC IPC647D with 2 x PCI and 2 x PCI Express: Referred to as Type 2 in the following
SIMATIC IPC647D/847D
