Barometer
Disregard the words STORMY, RAIN, CHANGE, FAIR
and DRY as these are only traditional zones on a
barometer dial. Your barometer indicating hand will
never move all the way to RAIN to predict rain or
to STORMY to predict inclement weather. The
normal operating range of movement for your
barometer indicating hand is from 1000 to 1030 hPa.
The numbers 1000, 1010, etc. provide the air
pressure based on at sea level, with the meteorolo-
gists work. The average air pressure is 1013.3 hPa and
means a variable weather conditions.
The changes of the air pressure are displayed by the dial hand.
Tap the instrument lightly to release any latent action. Adjust set hand directly over the
indicating hand. This is your momentary reading. At a later period you will be able to notice in
what direction the indicating hand has moved since the last setting.
lf it moves to the right you have a rising barometer which usually means a change for the
better or continued good weather. lf the reading is to the left you have a falling barometer,
which usually means a change for the worse. A steady barometer means no change. Readings
obtained from your barometer indicate weather conditions that may prevail with in the next
24 to 48 hours, providing wind direction and velocity remain the same as when readings were
obtained.
Adjustment of the barometers
From the factory, the barometer is supplied with setting at sea level (Normal-zero). In many
cases, therefore, it must be retrofitted to the level set (up to 1100 m) of your residential
location.
The indicating hand of the barometer may be adjusted by turning the set screw in a small
opening at the bottom of the instrument. A small screw driver may be used to turn this screw.
The correct sea level reading can be obtained from your
Weather Bureau or television weather forecasts.
Thermometer
lt is very rare that these require any attention or
adjustments. Should, for some reason, recalibra-
tion be needed, this can be carried out as follows:
Using a small screwdriver, a recessed/adjustment
slot can be found at the back of the Thermometer.
Set against another Thermometer with a known
accuracy.
