Note: By default, channel 10 will automatically be assigned to the metronome
sound (notes D#5-E5).
In Single mode, the EC350 will transmit on the MIDI base channel.
In Layer mode, the second sound transmits on the channel following the base chan-
nel. For example, if you select channel 7 as the base channel, the first sound will
transmit on channel 7, while the second sound will transmit on channel 8. If you
select channel 16, the first sound will transmit on channel 16, while the second
sound will transmit on channel 1 (cycling back to the first channel).
The recorder always transmits on two channels following the Layer channels. For
example, if you select channel 1 as the base channel, layered sounds on the key-
board will transmit on channels 1 and 2; recorder's Part 1 will transmit on channel
3; and recorder's Part 2 will transmit on channel 4.

Using the EC350 as a multitimbral tone generator

When EC350 is controlled from an external MIDI device, it can work as a 4- or 16-
part multitimbral tone generator. You can select a different sound on each of the 4 or
16 MIDI channels.
Use a MIDI cable to connect the EC350's MIDI IN to the MIDI OUT of a sequencer
1
etc.
Transmit MIDI data from the connected sequencer (or other device). See "Program
2
Change" on page 38 for instructions on how to select a sound using the MIDI Pro-
gram Change message. Program Change reception should be activated on the
EC350.
Read the other devices user's manual for details on sending Program Change mes-
sages.

Receiving on 4 or 16 MIDI channels

EC350 usually receives on all available 16 MIDI channels. To leave free channels to
other sound modules, you can set it to receive on just 4 MIDI channels. This allows
the remaining 12 MIDI channels to be used for other MIDI instruments, connected
to the master device before the piano.
