9. Operation

Select input

Minimise the volume using the corresponding channel fader before an input selection switch is changed over. Due to the
different volumes of the input sources, this could otherwise result in sudden, excessive volume.
Select the required inputs using the "PHONO / LINE" selection switch (58 / 62).
Example:
When the PHONO CD/LINE switch is in the position PHONO it means that the signal of the turntable on the PHONO jacks is applied at that
channel. The LINE input is not reproduced in this switch position. To reproduce the LINE input, the PHONO CD/LINE input selection switch has
to be switched to position CD/LINE.
Set input level
1. Using the "GAIN" control knobs (8), adjust the mixer input to the output signal of the connected playback device.
2. Set the "GAIN" control knobs (8) to the left stop position.
3. Start the connected playback device, e.g. CD player.
4. Slowly increase the input sensitivity of the mixer by turning the "GAIN" control knobs (8) in a clockwise direction until the desired level is reached.
5. Make sure that the signal does not sound distorted. If this occurs, reduce the input level.
6. The channels should all have about the same volume so that when cross-fading between the channels, no great differences in volume arise
and you thus have to regulate the output signal.
Set output level
1. Using the master volume control (16), adjust the mixer output to the input of the connected amplifier.
2. Set the master volume control (16) to the left stop position.
3. Start the connected playback device, e.g. CD player.
4. Slowly increase the output level of the mixer by turning the master volume control (16) in a clockwise direction until the desired level is
reached. Observe here the VU meter (3); the red light-emitting diodes should not light up or should do so only briefly as otherwise the
connected amplifier can be over-modulated and the signal distorted.
5. Turn the master volume knob (16) of the connected amplifier to a suitable volume.
Make sure that the connected loudspeakers and the amplifier are not overloaded. The playback should not be distorted
in any way. If distorted music signals can be heard although the volume on the amplifier has not been set too high and
the mixer has been set correctly, switch off the mixer immediately and check the connection. If you can find no fault in
the connection, please contact a specialist.
Cross-fading
1. Use the cross fader (25) to cross-fade between the signals of channels CH1 and CH2.
2. One channel is faded out by operating the cross fader (25) (becomes quieter), while the other channel is faded in (becomes louder).
3. In the central position, both channels are reproduced equally.
Setting the microphone
1. Set the "MIC VOLUME" (44) to the left stop position.
2. Speak into the microphone.
3. Slowly increase the volume of the microphone by turning the "MIC VOLUME" (44) in a clockwise direction until the desired level is reached.
4. The microphone signal is not influenced by the channel fader.
Using the Virtual DJ software
1. Run the "Virtual DJ" program. Enter the serial number provided for the first time. The serial number is printed on the red card inside the CD
jewel case. You need to scratch off the silver coating to see the serial number.
Should you have any problem in operating the software, visit the Virtual DJ website: http:// www/virtualdj.com
2. Select an audio output type and sound card type in the program.
3. Turn the volume control of your computer and the two channel faders (26) all the way down.
4. Select the desired music by using the "FOLDER OUT" button (6) and the selection knob (7) or using the browser tab on the computer
interface.
