Network connections
Currently the ReelBox only supports
the encoding by WEP (Wired Equivalent
Privacy). This procedure has shown to be
unreliable in the meantime. You should
therefore not operate the ReelBox in a
network with sensitive data by WLAN.
GB
In the setup of the ReelBox, up to
four keys can be stored for the WEP
encoding. The entry „Use WEP Key"
specifies which of the four keys
should currently be used. You can
either use one of the preset keys
by selecting the respective number
or enter a key of your own. It needs
to be made up of ten hexadecimal
values (0-9 und A-F); after every two
digits it needs to be separated by a
colon (colon on the remote control:
press arrow down once).
Preparation of the PC/notebook
During the preparation of the
PC/notebook it is assumed that the
windows own administration for
wireless networks is used. On the
PC/notebook, only a fixed IP address
needs to be issued.
50
Open the Control Panel on your
PC/notebook and go to the
„Network connections" there. All
network adapters are listed here
that exist in your system.
Click with the right mouse button on
the entry of your wireless network
adapter and from the context menu
select the „Properties" item.
Afterwards, click on the entry
„Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and
then on the „Properties" button.
Select in the properties of the
Internet protocol the entry „Use the
following IP address:".
At „IP address", issue an address
from the address range valid for
private networks (Class-C net:
„192.168.0.0" to „192.168.255.255").
In the example, we use the address
„192.168.1.10" for the PC. The entry
of „Subnet mask" is normally already
properly configured; „255.255.255.0"
ought to be entered here.
Confirm with „OK".
Establishing the WLAN
connection
By means of the start button or „My
Computer" of Windows XP, open
the control panel and then „network
connection" and „WLAN".
Click now on the „Show wireless
networks" button.
In the list with wireless networks
within reach, if properly configured,
the previously set up ad-hoc network
will appear with the name the you
have issued (e.g. „reel"), in case you
have accepted the setting.
Click on the network name in the list
and then on the „Connect" button to
activate the connection between the
ReelBox and the PC.
Checking the network connection
Check the proper function of the
network connection by clicking on
„Start" and then on „Run" in
Windows on your notebook.
A window is displayed with a line in
which commands can be entered.
