For a manually issued IP address,
enter an IP address at „IP Address"
that has not been used in the IP
address range of your network.
Regardless of whether DHCP is
used or the IP address is issued
manually, the value for the network
mask is already properly specified
with „255.255.255.0" (when using a
Class-C net).
Preparation of the router
Since the setting menus of various
routers variate significantly, refer to the
details for configuring the router from
the respective user manuals please.
Check network connections
In case you make use of DHCP for
issuing addresses in the network,
it is necessary at first to determine
the IP address issued to the Reel-
Box by the router. In case you have
manually issued an IP address to the
ReelBox, you can skip this step.
Open in the Setup menu
„2 Network", „1 Global options"
and then „1 Ethernet".
The entry at „IP Address" names the
IP address used by the ReelBox.
In Windows on your PC, click on
„Start" and then on „Run". A window
is displayed with a line in which
commands can be entered.
Enter the following command in
this line and then press the Enter
key (Return): „ping 192.168.X.XX"
(replace X.XX by the IP address of
your ReelBox).
This command sends data packs from
your PC/notebook to the ReelBox.
If you receive a response from the
ReelBox, then your network has been
properly configured.
Direct connection between Reel-
Box and PC/notebook by WLAN
The PC/notebook needs to be
equipped with a WLAN adapter.
The ReelBox has to be equipped
with a WLAN-Mini-PCI card or with a
USB-WLAN stick.
Network connections
Open in the Setup menu
„2 Network", „1 Global options"
and then „2 Wireless LAN".
Select at „Use WLAN" the entry
„Yes" and confirm with „OK".
In the example, the default IP
address „192.168.1.200" is used
there. In case you want to use a
different IP address range, enter the
appropriate IP address here.
In the ad-hoc operation presented
here, it is not easily possible to
use the DHCP mode (dynamic
assignment of the IP by a DHCP
server), therefore leave the setting
„Use DHCP" at „No".
Select at „1 WEP Settings" a name
for your wireless network and enter
it at „(E)SSID". Of course, you could
also accept the default value „reel".
The entry „Mode" needs to be set to
„ad-hoc".
At „Security", you should switch
from „open" to „restricted" to
activate the WEP encoding.
