Overview
MSC is a modular safety system and comprises a base unit (MSC-CB), which can be
configured using the graphic user interface EUCHNER Safety Designer, and various ex-
tension modules that can be connected to MSC-CB via the proprietary MSCB bus. The
base unit MSC-CB can be used as a standalone device as well.
The module MSC-CB-AC-FI8FO2 is a base unit of the MSC system and features the
following inputs and outputs:
Ì 8 single-channel/4 dual-channel inputs
Ì 2 control inputs for starting/restarting OSSD outputs or for external device monitor-
ing (EDM)
Ì 2 dual-channel OSSD outputs (PL e, category 4)
Ì 4 test outputs for monitoring for short circuits or overload states
Ì 2 monitoring outputs programmed via the EUCHNER Safety Designer software

Ì The MSC system achieves the following safety levels: SIL 3, SILCL 3, PL e, cat. 4, type 4 as per
the applicable standards.
However, the final SIL and PL safety categories for the application are dependent on the number of
safety components, their parameters and the connections made, as per the risk analysis.
Ì Carefully read the section "Applicable standards" in the manual on the supplied CD-ROM.
Ì Perform a comprehensive risk analysis to determine the corresponding safety level for the specific
application based on all applicable standards.
Ì The programming/configuration of the MSC system is the sole responsibility of the installer or the
user.
Ì This programming/configuration must correspond to the application-specific risk analysis and all
applicable standards.
Ì After programming/configuration and installation of the MSC system and all related devices, a
complete application safety check must be performed (see section "Checking the system" in the
manual on the supplied CD-ROM).
