Maintenance

All work may only be carried out by Dräger or by Dräger
authorised technical personnel.
Carry out the following maintenance to ensure a reliable
operation and correct measured value display.
6.1

Maintenance intervals

The following maintenance intervals must be complied with for
the device components.

Maintenance work

6.2.1

Cleaning

Cleaning the PID 5000 serves to flush contamination, such as
oil or calibration gas, out of the device.
Clean the PID 5000 after performing the following work:
After commissioning
After re-commissioning (e.g. after maintenance)
Procedure:
1. Select the instrument menu (see chapter 4.4 on page 12).
2. Use the magnetic pen to tap on "menu" until "CLEANING"
appears on the display.
3. Select "run". Cleaning is started.
The gas inlet being cleaned is shown on the display: MEAS
(gas inlet measurement), REF (gas inlet reference).
4. Purge the PID 5000 for 10 minutes.
5. Abort the purge operation by tapping on "abort". The
measurement process resumes. The current values shown
(REF and MEAS) must be less than 10 pA. Otherwise the
purge operation must be repeated.

NOTICE
If multiple purging does not lead to the required current
values, check the maintenance status of the compressor
system and, if necessary, contact Dräger Service.
6.2.2

Calibrating the device

1. Turn on the device at least one hour before calibration.
2. The PID 5000 must be supplied with compressed air in
accordance with DIN EN 12021.
3. After starting the device, switch to the menu and start the
"Cleaning" mode in order to purge the device. The purge
operation can be exited as soon as the displayed current
values are below 10 pA.
NOTICE
Only isobutylene 5 ppm (span gas) in synthetic air is required
as the calibration gas. The clean air (the null gas) is supplied
to the device via the gas inlet (reference) from the Air Guard's
connected compressed air supply.
► The PID 5000 automatically switches between the gas
inlets.
► The hose from the span gas' source to the gas inlet
(measurement) must be as short as possible.
► The hose must consist of material that neither absorbs the
calibration gas nor lets gases escape that can falsify the
measurement result.
4. Access the menu and select the "Calibration" menu item.
5. Follow the instructions on the display.
WARNING
Make sure that the hoses are correctly connected, as
otherwise the Air Guard does not provide reliable measured
values.
► The hose that is connected to the Dräger-Tube must be
connected to the "inlet ref" connection and the other hose
must be connected to the "inlet" connection.
► Do not remove the hose on the "outlet" connection during
the entire test.
► If you have any questions, contact Dräger.
NOTICE
Note that the reference gas must be removed before applying
the span gas (pay attention to the reading in the display) as
otherwise the hoses may suddenly rupture or become
detached. Connect the span gas directly to the "inlet meas"
connection.
6. Fit all hoses back on the PID 5000.
7. Return to the menu and choose "Cleaning", then click on
"run".
8. Wait until the displayed current values are below 10 pA and
then exit the purge operation.
9. Return to measuring mode.
