Chapter 5. Maintenance: cleaning and
decontamination
.1. Shaver handpiece maintenance
Cleaning/decontamination
Cleaning process application before and after
each use (validated by FMS):
1. P lace the protective cap securely onto the
shaver handpiece connector.
2. L eave the suction toggle in the open
"MAX" position.
. C arry out a first soaking bath into a HEXANIOS
G+R solution (or an equivalent decontaminant
solution and refer to decontaminant
instructions for immersion time), diluted
at 0.5% for 15 minutes (bath temperature:
19°C or 66.20°F).
. C arry out 5 to and fro motions with the swab-
type brush in the pipe and, thoroughly clean
the following:
The locking system
(Inner and outer parts). Open and close the locking
system to ensure that it is free of foreign bodies.
The suction port
With the suction toggle switch in fully open
position. Pass running water through the suction
port.
The toggle switch
Open and close it several time. Rinse the inner and
the outer parts thoroughly.
If available dry with compressed air, especially
the inside of the suction tubing and the
locking system.
. O bserve whether some soiling traces
are remaining.
6. C arry out a second soaking bath into a
HEXANIOS G+R solution (or an equivalent
decontaminant solution and refer to
decontaminant instructions for immersion
time), diluted at 0.5% for 15 minutes (bath
temperature: 18°C or 64.40°F) with ultrasonic
actions (frequency: 50–60Hz).
7. R inse with deionized water for 30 seconds
(make sure that the water flows out through
the pipe).
8. D ry with medical air at less than
100°C or 212°F for 30 seconds.
Sterilization
Take off the cap before sterilization. The handpiece
is factory sealed and is completely sterilizable
using a steam autoclave.
Steam sterilization:
• 134°C or 273.20°F for 18 minutes.
Sterilization flash:
• 132°C or 269.60°F for 4 minutes.
Warning:
These guidelines do not guarantee that
the device is sterile after the procedure.
The institution is responsible for sterility
assurance validation.
