Installation and operating instructions
for rubber expansion joints

STENFLEX rubber expansion joints can only work properly if they are installed according to
good professional practice. Their service life depends not only on the operating conditions,
but primarily on whether they are installed correctly. Expansion joints are not simple pipe
elements, but moveable parts that have to be checked regularly.
Expansion joints are special pipeline system components. STENFLEX
guarantee for reproduced products or modifications of the original products.
To avoid installation errors, please observe the following instructions under conside-
ration of the dimensioned technical diagrams in our catalogue.
CAUTION: FAILURE to comply may lead to the destruction of the expansion joint,
personal injuries, or environmental endangerment.

Installation
Store the expansion joint in a clean and dry place. If stored outdoors, protect it from
direct sunlight and weather factors.
Prior to installation, make sure the packaging and the expansion joint are not damaged.
In case of damage of any kind, the product may not be installed.
Keep the inside and the outside of the expansion joint clear of foreign objects (e.g.
contamination, insulating material, etc.), and check this before and after installation.
Only remove the transport locking devices and protective cover immediately before
installation.
The expansion joints may only be installed by authorised and qualified personnel. The
applicable accident prevention regulations must be observed.
Do not throw the expansion joint or knock against it; protect it from falling objects. Do
not connect any chains or ropes to the bellows.
No special seals are required, because the expansion joints are self-sealing. The sealing
surfaces of the companion flanges must be even and clean. Additional seals are not
required; a seal is only needed if guiding pipes are installed.
The length of the installation gap should equal the overall length of the expansion joint.
Preferably, the expansion joint should be subject to compressive stress.
