Screw torques for STENFLEX
The torques refer to unused new expansion joints. If required, the values may be exceeded
by 50%. Tighten the screws crosswise several times to achieve an even sealing compres-
sion. Retighten the screws after approx. 24 operating hours to compensate the settlement.

Installation instructions for axial and universal expansion joints
for compensating changes of length (Type Series D)
Unrestrained rubber expansion joints can be used for combining (overlapping) axial,
lateral, and angular movements. Mind the reduction of individual movements! In case of
doubt, consult the manufacturer.
Make sure the fixed points are dimensioned sufficiently. The fixed points must bear the

Not more than one expansion joint may be installed between two fixed points.
If there are several axial expansion joints, the pipe routing must be divided by intermedi-
ate fixed points.
The pipeline with axial expansion joints must be guided through bearings precisely. Gui-
de bearings must be placed on both sides of the expansion joint. A fixed point replaces
a guide bearing. Internal guiding pipes are not suitable as pipe guiding devices.
Commissioning
Only check the pressure and tightness after the fixed points and guide bearings have
been properly installed; otherwise, the expansion joint will be extended and become
unserviceable.
If the operating temperature is high, take protective measures to avoid personal injuries
caused by touching the hot surfaces.
To ensure a reliable operation, expansion joints may only be operated within the admis-
sible pressure, temperature, and movement limits.

By explaining the system, supervising the operating personnel, and providing operating
instructions, the operator must take measures to prevent wrong use of the expansion
joints.
