Stabimed
Dear patient,
Your doctor has prescribed the
Stabimed knee spport for you. Please
read through these instructions
carefully to help ensure that you fit
your brace correctly.
Indications
•
Mild to moderate instability, chronic
instability
•
Meniscus injuries
•
Traumatic or degenerative changes
at the knee joint
Contraindications
None known at present.
Setting the flexion / extension limits.
Only to be carried out by an
orthopedic technician.
Extension limit wedge, silver:
0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, 45°
Flexion limit wedge, black :
0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75°, 90°, 120°
Can be immobilised at:
0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, 45°
For immobilising the orthosis first
insert the flexion wedge and then the
corresponding extension wedge. The
medial (inside) and the lateral (outside)
wedge settings must always be the same.
1. Remove the lateral joint splints from
the pockets.
2. 10° extension wedges are
preinstalled in your knee brace as
standard.
3. To replace the wedges first loosen the
screws in the joint cover, then take
the cover off, the wedges can now be
removed by being gently pulled out
in a forwards direction.
4. Replacement extension wedges
®
(silver) can be found in the wedge set
marked 'RE' respectively 'LE'. Slide
the new wedge into the joint from the
front, and secure it by tightening the
screws. Insert the wedge so that the
letter shown on the joint plate points
upwards (R or L respectively). Now
insert the screw in the thread and
screw it tight.
5. To replace the black flexion wedge
loosen the screw and pull the wedge
out from the back of the orthosis.
Select the suitable wedge from the
wedge set marked 'RF' respectively
or'LF' respectively. Insert the wedge
so that the letter shown on the joint
plate points upwards (R or L
respectively). Now insert the screw in
the thread and screw it tight.
6. Bend and flex the brace 'joint' a
couple of times and check that the
wedges are positioned correctly.
Finally, secure the joint cover and
replace the lateral joint splints in the
corresponding pockets.
Important notes
Only change the extension and flexion
limits on instruction from your doctor or
orthotist. In order to prevent hyperex
tension, always insert extension wedges
or 0° wedges. The wedges define the
exact excursion of the orthosis. In
difficult softtissue conditions, e.g.
where the softtissues are under
compression, it may be necessary to
insert a larger wedge to limit the joint
movement to the desired excursion. In
addition, make sure that the orthosis
joints are correctly positioned: the
middles of the joints should be level with
the upper border of the patella. The joint
must lie behind the midline of the leg.
