Introduction
The Optrel e2100 is a respiratory protective system which is based on the principle
of circulated overpressured air in the welding helmet. The belt-mounted blower unit
delivers air through a filter and via an air hose into the welding helmet. The supply
of filtrated air creates moderate pressure inside the helmet, which prevents the
external contaminated air from entering the user's breathing zone. The air supply
offers comfortable breathing for the user.
The Optrel e2100 respiratory system meets the European standard EN 12941. It
provides protection against particles, solid and liquid aerosols and harmful gases
depending on the type of filters used. The system can be equipped with particle,
gas or combination filters.
Warnings & and safety limitations
The user must read and understand all the following instructions to be able to use
the respiratory protective system correctly:
• Oxygen concentration in the environment of the worker using this system must
not drop under 17%.
• Type and concentration of the contaminants in the air of the working place must
be known by the user.
• The respiratory system must not be used in unventilated areas such as tanks,
pipes, canals etc.
• The respiratory system must not be used in areas with danger of explosion.
• Use the respiratory system only with the blower unit switched on.
• Check the air flow before use.
• If the blower unit stops working due to any reason, the user must leave the
contaminated area immediately.
• If the blower unit is switched off, the respiratory system gives little or no
respiratory protection. Also there is a risk of high concentration of carbon dioxide
(CO2) and of oxygen reduction inside the welding helmet.
• Attention! During a load of really hard work, negative pressure may occur inside
the welding helmet if the user's breathing becomes too intensive and thus can
decrease the protective factor.
• Make sure that the face seal fits the user's face perfectly. Only then the efficiency
of the system is sufficient. The protective factor of the complete system is
reduced if the seal of the headpiece is not fitted properly, for e.g. due to beards
or long hair intervening into the seal line.
• Make sure that the air hose doesn't build a loop and doesn't get caught on objects
in the environment.
The respiratory system Optrel e2100 provides protection against solid and liquid
particles, as well as against vapours and gases when fitted with the corresponding
filter.
It is essential to choose the correct type of filter according to the type of
contamination. See the following instructions for using the filters.
• A particle filter must not be used for protection against gases.
• A gas filter must not be used for protection against particles.
• If there is both particle and gas contamination in the workplace, an adequate
combined filter must be used.
• When using filters protecting against gases which are difficult to identify by
smelling or other subjective feelings, special rules depending on the actual
conditions must be followed.
• Immediately replace the filter(s) as soon as the contaminant can be smelt.
• Use only original filters certified for the particular respiratory system.
ATTENTION! If any of these conditions is not kept or followed, the warranty
is automatically invalid.
Warranty & liability
Optrel will repair the product or replace it where necessary in cases of materials or

Initial operation of the new unit
1. Attach the respiratory unit onto the belt. Make sure that the filters are fitted
properly.
2. Connect the air hose to the blower unit by the bayonet joint.
3. Connect the air hose to the welding helmet.
Application and function
Turn on & off: Turn on or off the unit by pressing the ON/OFF (fig. 1) button on the
control panel. An acoustic signal shortly beeps (for about 2 seconds), next all LED
diodes come on green - the air flow is set at the maximum level.
Adjusting the belt size: put the belt on (fig. 2) and adjust the size so that the blower
unit sits comfortably on your hips.
Connecting the air hose to the helmet: Connect the air hose to the helmet by
pressing the hose onto the corresponding part on the unit until it clicks into place.
(fig. 3)
Connecting the air hose to the blower: Connect the air hose to the blower, through
throwing the hose at the connection clockwise. (fig. 4)
Removing the air hose from the helmet: Push the hose connection on both sides
and remove it from the welding helmet. (fig. 5)
Removing the air hose from the blower: Rotate the hose connector
counterclockwise and remove it from the blower unit. (fig. 6)
The blower unit has 3 airflow levels: 140 / 160 / 180 l/min
To change the airflow level, please press the small fan-icon to reduce the airflow, or
the large fan-icon to enlarge the airflow. (fig. 1)
