^ The filter loading indicator is for particulates only. It does not provide any
information about gas and vapour service life. Leave the contaminated area
immediately if taste or smell contaminants.
Use in the power off state is not normal. However, reduced protection is
provided to allow safe exit from the contaminated area.
Take care to prevent the breathing tube from becoming looped around
protruding objects. If during use, the airflow into the facepiece stops and the
alarm sounds, vacate the contaminated area immediately and investigate
the cause (please see fault finding).
NOTE: The 'in-use' life of the product will vary with frequency and
conditions of use. In everyday use, the expected 'in-use' life of the
Powered Air Turbo is 3-5 years. Some extreme conditions may result in
deterioration over a shorter period. The product must be stored and
maintained as stated below.
Note: Do not expose battery pack to temperatures above 54°C. The
Powered Air Turbo battery alarm will activate if battery pack temperature
reaches 54°C while the Powered Air Turbo is in use.
The Powered Air Turbo will shut down if the battery pack temperature
exceeds 60°C.
^ Do not use the batteries outside of the recommended temperature limits.
DOFFING
^ Do not remove the face piece, filters or turn off the Powered Air
Turbo until you have vacated the contaminated area.
^ Breathing tube should only be removed after the facepiece has
been taken off.
Personal shower decontamination should take place before switching off,
removal and disassembly of the system (see cleaning instructions).
1. Release the tension on the head straps.
2. Carefully lift face piece off the face and remove the respirator by lifting up
and away from the face.
3. Switch off the Powered Air Turbo by pressing the power button for 2
seconds.
4. Unbuckle the waist belt. If required, remove the belt from the Powered Air
Turbo by lifting the lower, centre portion of the belt over the locking edges
and sliding the belt down (see Fig 31).
5. Before removing the breathing tube, turn the Powered Air Turbo upside
down so that the outlet faces the ground (see Fig 32) to help minimise the
potential for contamination of the outlet.
6. Before removing the filter, place the Powered Air Turbo face down on a flat
surface. Note: The filter cover should be in contact with the surface. Press
the filter latch (Fig 33). The latch requires two fingers to engage. Slowly pull
the filter away from the Powered Air Turbo. This helps minimise the potential
contamination of the motor/fan. Note: The Powered Air Turbo should already
be switched off before removing the filter.
To remove the cover from the filter, hold the filter upside down and pull out on
the blue tab at the bottom of the filter cover to unlatch it from the filter (see Fig
34). Pull the cover down and away from the filter.
The filter should be discarded.
Note. If using the breathing tube retainer, remove by holding the bottom two
tabs on the visor frame loop and gently pulling these up over the bottom of
the visor frame. Hold the two side tabs and gently stretch the visor frame
loop over the visor frame.
If the respirator has been used in an area that has caused it to become
contaminated with a substance requiring special decontamination
procedures it should be placed in a suitable container and sealed until
it can be decontaminated or discarded.
CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Note: Please refer to cleaning instructions in relevant Facepiece User
Instruction.
Personal shower decontamination should take place with the appropriate
filter cover in place. Do not direct water into the air inlet of the Powered Air
Turbo but ensure system is thoroughly cleaned during the process. Do not
remove breathing tube, filter or battery during shower decontamination.
Ensure the system is dry before removing the breathing tube. Filters should
not be reused after showering. Ensure the filter cover is clean before reuse.
The Powered Air Turbo can be immersed or put in a respirator washer for
cleaning. Filters must be removed and the air inlet and air outlet cleaning and
storage plugs must be inserted into the Powered Air Turbo first (see Fig 35).
Plugs should be inspected for damage and wear prior to each use. Worn or
damaged seals must be replaced. Plugs should be replaced every 30 uses
or annually, whichever comes first. Water temperature should not exceed
50°C.
Note: Powered Air Turbos which have been dropped or damaged should not
be immersed or put in a respirator washer due to potential water ingress. The
battery can also be immersed for cleaning. Remove the battery from the
Powered Air Turbo and use a cleaning cover (available as an accessory) to
keep the contacts free from corrosion (See Fig 36).
Note: There are three locking loops on the battery cleaning cover. The
smallest loop position is for use with the standard capacity battery (see Fig
37A), the middle loop position is for use with the high capacity battery (see
Fig37B).
^ Do not immerse without the battery storage and cleaning cover installed.
Do not immerse battery if damaged. If water is found between the battery
and cleaning cover after immersion, discard cleaning cover and replace. The
battery contacts may be cleaned with a mild solution of water and liquid
household soap. Ensure that the contacts are clean and dry before storage
and use.
If additional cleaning is required, use a clean cloth dampened with a mild
solution of water and liquid household soap. Do not use petrol, chlorinated
degreasing fluids (such as trichloroethylene), organic solvents or abrasive
cleaning agents to clean any part of the equipment. To disinfect use wipes as
detailed in Reference Leaflet. The spark arrestor can be cleaned using water
and liquid household soap. Completely dry the spark arrestor with a clean
cloth. If it cannot be cleaned or is damaged then it should be replaced.
MAINTENANCE
General
Maintenance, servicing and repair must only be carried out by properly
trained personnel. Send products to maintenance centre agreed by 3M for
servicing. For more info contact 3M Technical Service.
^ Use of unapproved parts or unauthorised modification could result
in danger to life or health and can invalidate any warranty.

The face piece should be repaired or disposed of if damaged or defective
parts are observed. See Preparation for Use. A maintenance record should
be kept at the monthly checking stage to comply with Health and Safety
Regulations. This record should be kept for at least 10 years.
Disposal
If disposal of parts is required this should be undertaken in accordance with
local health and safety and environmental regulations.
^ Dispose of lithium ion battery packs according to local environmental
regulations.
Do not dispose of in standard waste bins, in a fire or send for incineration.
Battery Charging
Select an approved charger kit and refer to the user instructions provided
with the kit.
Batteries should be charged after each use.
^ Do not charge batteries with unapproved chargers, in enclosed cabinets
without ventilation, in hazardous locations or near sources of high heat.
^ Do not charge the batteries outside the recommended temperature range
of 0-40°C.
The battery may be left on the charger. However, for long term storage of the
batteries, 3M recommends that they are stored off the charger at
approximately 30-50% charge. The battery should never be left in a
discharged state. The batteries are designed to provide approximately 250
charge/discharge equivalents, during the first year of service, while
maintaining at least 80% of their original capacity.
Head Harness Removal
To remove the head harness, push the buckles forward whilst holding the
facepiece in the other hand to release the buckle from the harness button. To
replace the harness, push the buckle over the harness button and slide
under the button to lock into place. See figure 38.
Visor Replacement
Remove the screws from either side of the visor frame and remove the two
halves of the visor frame. Roll back the facepiece from the edge of the visor
and remove. To replace the visor, align the centre of the lens with the centre
line of the facepiece. The centre of the visor is marked by 2 small dots, one
at the top centre and one at the bottom centre. Place the visor into the
facepiece ensuring that it is sealed on all sides and reattach the visor frame.
Replace the screws and tighten. See figure 39.
Nose Cup Inhalation Valve Replacement
To Remove the nose cup inhalation valve, grasp the valve and pull the valve
stem out from the valve seat. To replace push the valve stem into the hole in
the valve seat until locked in place. The valve stem should point away from
the face when worn.
Main Inhalation Valve Replacement
The inhalation valve is designed to seal the interface between the inhalation
port on the facepiece and the filters. Remove valve from the inhalation port.
To change the valve diaphragm, push the diaphagm over the centre post of
the inhalation valve. Insert the inhalation valve into the inhalation port
ensuring seal is secured in place.
