Device Description

The Lateral JACK Shoulder Distractor provides optimal positioning
during lateral shoulder procedures allowing the surgeon control over
lateral humeral head distraction. The Lateral JACK Shoulder Distractor
is to be used with Smith & Nephew's disposable Lateral JACK Sterile
Cover.

Indications for Use

The Lateral JACK Shoulder Distractor is indicated for use during lateral
decubitus shoulder procedures.
Warnings
• Failure to do the following may result in injury to the patient
and/or health care professional.
• It is the responsibility of the surgeon to be familiar with
the appropriate surgical techniques prior to the use of this
product.
• The Lateral JACK is intended for intermittent use only.
• Single use stabilization kits are supplied as a Radiation
Sterilized Product.
• Single use stabilization kits are not to be reused or used if
packaging has been damaged. Failure to comply may result in
patient injury and/or infection.
• Prolonged traction may cause nerve damage; it is the surgeon's
responsibility to ensure that undue pressure is not placed on
the patient's limb.
• Some patients may require additional padding; it is the
surgeon's responsibility to ensure that the nervous and
circulatory structures are adequately padded.
• Do not autoclave the Lateral JACK Shoulder Distractor.

Instructions for Use
1. Place the Clark Clamp (Figure 1) onto the OR table rail on the
non-operative side of the table at chest level.
2. After intubation, place patient in lateral position.
3. Insert the Lateral JACK Shoulder Distractor into the Clark Clamp.
Position the JACK perpendicular to the operative arm; the JACK
should be tilted at approximately a 15 degree angle toward the
patient's head. The Pad is positioned under the patient's bicep.
Tighten the Clark Clamp. Ensure that the Lateral JACK is positioned
at the correct height to provide the range of motion and angle of
distraction required by the surgeon.
4. Rotate the Lateral JACK so that it is not over the patient while they
are being prepped and draped.
5. While the patient is being prepped and draped, the Lateral JACK
Shoulder Distractor is draped with the Lateral JACK Sterile Cover.
6. Rotate the Lateral JACK Shoulder Distractor into place below the
patient's biceps, minimizing pressure on the patient's ribcage or
biceps.
7. The Rotational Handle (Figure 2) controls the telescoping motion
of the pad position. Adjusting the telescoping position of the pad
allows for proper fit under the arm and helps achieve an anterior
or posterior component to the traction.
8. The Release Handle under the arm pad controls the intraoperative
vertical motion of the Lateral JACK (Figure 2). Pulling upward on the
handle releases the position of the pad and will allow the surgeon
to increase or decrease the lateral distraction.
