Oxygen measurement
The BEA 460 is fitted with an O
is screwed in at the location provided (Fig. 3, Item 3)
on the AMM back panel. The oxygen measurement is
automatically compared to the air oxygen content of
20.9 % by vol and is required for Lambda calculation.

Exhaust gas measurements on
2-stroke engines
As compared to vehicles with four-stroke engines,
vehicles with two-stroke engines have a higher HC
emission level and additionally emit oil. Oil essentially
consists of hydrocarbons (HC). If no precautions are
taken, this is deposited on the walls of the external
elements (exhaust gas sampling probe, exhaust gas
sampling hose, filter).
These deposits result in an HC concentration display
(residual value display) even when no exhaust gas
measurement is being performed, i.e. the actual value
for an HC measurement will be biased (increased) by
this residual value.
This effect, known as "Hang-up", occurs with all exhaust
gas analyzers and is not specific to any particular make.
It only becomes apparent with units for measuring HC.
The use of activated charcoal filters can largely prevent
the occurrence of such deposits. These filters bind
and neutralize the majority of the oil and volatile
hydrocarbons. The service life of such filters is limited.

Use is always to be made of an activated charcoal
filter for exhaust gas measurements on two-stroke
engines. This activated charcoal filter must be
inserted in the gas path downstream of the coarse
filter.

When taking exhaust gas measurements on two-
stroke engines, it is advisable to always have
a separate second external gas path (exhaust
gas sampling probe, exhaust gas sampling hose,
filter GF1 and activated charcoal filter). All the
components required are contained in the two-
stroke set 1 687 001 283.

The exhaust gas sampling hose used in this two-
stroke set is made of silicone. Silicone exhaust gas
sampling hoses and activated charcoal filters are
however only to be used for CO measurements, not
for HC and Lambda measurements.

Any deposits can be quickly removed after
measurement by blowing compressed air through
the detached hose.

Bluetooth USB adapter
A radio link with the BEA 460 can only be established
using the Bluetooth USB adapter included in the scope of
delivery. This is inserted at the PC/Laptop and a red LED
lights to indicate that it is ready for operation.

Do not subject the Bluetooth USB adapter connected
to the Laptop to mechanical strain or use it as
a handle, as this could damage the Laptop or
Bluetooth USB adapter.
