6.0 Preoperative Tests:
Perform the following test
before each perforation.
Protect gloved fingers with
gauze while performing
tests. If either test does not
perform as indicated, take
special action to prevent
further use of the perforator
and immediately return to
ACRA-CUT, Inc. To test the
mechanical integrity of the
assembled unit:
6.1 Hold the drive shank securely
while pressing the fluted
components (inner and outer
drill) toward each other.
A smooth, positive spring
action should be felt.
6.2 While holding the drive
shank, rotate the fluted portion
(inner and outer drill). These
parts should turn smoothly.
7.0 General Operating
Procedures:
7.1 The drive shank fits a standard
Hudson coupler.
7.2 Power unit must be used
only in the CLOCKWISE
direction, or forward mode.
7.3 Perforator can be used at low
speeds and in hand-operated
drilling devices.
6
7.4 Recommended speed
for power drilling is up
to 800 RPM. Power unit
(standard 1000 RPM) should
be first set at 60 PSI and
increased as needed to no
more than 80 PSI.
7.5 To start perforation, place the
nonskid tip against the skull,
compress and rotate drill by
hand until drive mechanism is
seated in the driver. Then drill
at chosen speed.
7.6 Perforator will stop when
penetration is made or when
surgeon releases pressure on
the unit.
7.7 Shelf Formation:
7.7.1 The shelf formed by
DGR-I and DGR-0 perforators
will be well defined. The DGR
series of perforators also form
a ridge of bone at the bottom
of the through hole. (See
Figure 1)
7.7.2 The shelf formed by
DGR-II perforators slants
more than the shelf formed by
DGR-I and DGR-0 perforators.
This feature allows for safe
use on skull/skull areas as thin
as 1mm. The DGR series of
perforators also form a ridge
of bone at the bottom of the
through hole. (See Figure 2)
