4. Instrument functions
4.3 Alarm thresholds
Two alarm thresholds can be set on the instrument to facilitate rapid assess-
ment of the moisture content of the material. The setting is displayed on a
3-coloured LED.
The following statuses are possible:
1. Indicated value < Al1:
2. Indicated value ≥ Al1 and < Al2:
3. Indicated value ≥ Al2:
To make the required setting, hold the SEL key pressed down until 'Al2' or
subsequently 'Al1' is shown in the display. Once the key is released, the re-
spectively current alarm threshold is displayed and can be altered upwards or
downwards using the arrow keys. The new selection must in turn be confir-
med and implemented by pressing the SEL key.
The visual alarm makes it possible to quickly detect critical areas, in particular
when taking moisture profile measurements using the dielectric probe.

4.4 Zero point calibration

The instrument zero point should be calibrated before each measurement. To
do so, hold up the HBF 410 in the air without allowing it to come into contact
with any material.
When taking dielectric measurements, ensure that you hold the probe at least
15 cm away from any material during the zero point calibration and that you
hold only the lower part of the instrument in your hand.
Then press ZERO key when the instrument is in the normal measurement
mode; the HBF 410 automatically sets and displays the zero point.
4.5 Hold(-Max) function
The HBF 410 is equipped with a Hold-Max function that allows it to read just
the respective highest measured value of the entire series of measurements
indicated on the display. To activate the function, press the HOLD key; to de-
activate it, press the same key again.
