Therefore, it would be ideal to use 2 microphones: One for picking up
the range up to 3 kHz placed along the flute player's line of sight (0° C).
Another one for the range above 3 kHz placed to the right of the flautist
(90°).
The C 1000 S microphone is best suited for close-miking the flute, work-
ing distance depending on the style of music played. For popular and
jazz pieces, relatively short distances may be desirable (1 or 2 inches),
as the amount of wind and breath noise rises with decreasing working
distance. In this case, blow a little below the microphone in order to
avoid getting too much noise or overloading the microphone (fig. 6).

Saxophone:
Microphone placement for the saxophone depends on how much key
noise you want. It you consider the noise produced by the keys as char-
acteristic of the saxophone sound or the mood of the number, point the
C 1000 S at the middle of the instrument. However, if you regard key
noise as a nuisance, direkt the microphone toward the front edge of the
bell (not into it: too much wind noise!).
In both cases the working distance should be 8 to 12 inches (fig. 7).
