Angle of Indicence
Don't sing directly into any microphone! If you do, it will not only pick up
excessive breath noise but also cause sibilance. It is better to sing to
one side of the microphone or over its head. The result will be a well-
balanced, natural sound (see fig. 1).
For even better breath and pop noise rejection, use the supplied
W 1000 windscreen (see fig. 2).

Proximity Effect
Singing into the C 1000 S from a very short distance will boost the bass
range and your voice will sound warm and big. High gain together with
too much bass may, however, render your words unintelligible: move
away from the mic a bit or use your mixer's bass cut facility. Using a
microphone close to the lips may also reduce leakaga because the
added bass to your voice will mask the relatively thin sound of instru-
ments farther away from the microphone. Alternatively, when holding
the microphone close to your lips you'll need less gain which also
translates into less leakage (or spillover).
Feedback
The howling and screaming of sound reinforcement systems which
seems to start spontaneously is not too popular with both musicians
and audiences. Feedback occurs when part of the sound radiated by a
loudspeaker is picked up by a microphone, amplified, and fed back into
the loudspeaker. Above a certain volume setting ("feedback threshold")
the signal, in a way, runs in circles, the system starts howling, and can
be brought under control again only by turning down the volume.
To counteract feedback tendencies, the C 1000 S has a cardioid/hyper-
cardioid convertible polar response. Slipping the PPC 1000 Polar Pat-
tern Converter on the capsule (see fig. 3) will change the microphone's
pickup pattern from cardioid to hypercardioid. This means that the
