• The unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible
because of safety and approval reasons (CE).
• The design of the mains transformer complies with protection class II. Only use a
standard mains outlet as voltage source for the power pack.
• Only use the power adaptor provided for the power supply.
• Only use the product in dry indoor areas.
The product must not get damp or wet as this may damage it, danger of a fatal
electric shock!
• The device is not a toy. Keep devices that operate on the mains voltage out of the
reach of children! Therefore, be especially careful when children are around. Use
the product out of the reach of children.
• Do not leave packing materials unattended. They may become dangerous play-
things for children.
• Handle the product with care, it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or acciden-

Start-up
Attention!
To access the NAS adapter, you may have to unblock certain functions in your fire-
wall software (e.g. ZoneAlarm) or the access to the network must be enabled (e. g.
Windows firewall); or maybe an antivirus software reports an access attempt to the
network. If you block these accesses, the NAS adapter cannot be found or a con-
figuration via the web interface of the NAS adapter is not possible!
a) If a DHCP server already exists in your network (e.g. in a DSL router), please proceed
as follows:
• Connect the RJ45 connector of the NAS adapter to your network switch or router via a 1:1-con-
nected network cable.
• Connect the round, low-voltage plug of the power supply unit with the relevant jack on the NAS
adapter.
• Put the plug-in power supply into a mains socket. Now, the power LED lights up.
Furthermore, the Link LED should light up or start flashing indicating a working network con-
nection.
• The NAS adapter now is assigned a free IP address by the DHCP server from the address
www.conrad.com
range of your network.
• The NAS adapter can take up to 1 minute to boot, before the network functions of the NAS
adapter are available.

°
b) If no DHCP server is available in your network, please proceed as follows:
• If no DHCP server is available in your network (e.g. no DSL router available or when its DHCP
server is switched off), the DHCP server in the NAS adapter is activated automatically. The
NAS adapter then has the IP address 169.254.0.1 and an IP address is assigned to the com-
puters from the address range 169.245.0.x (x = 2....254).
• It is absolutely necessary to first connect the NAS adapter to the network and to the power sup-
ply in order to ensure that all PCs in the network are assigned an IP address automatically.
Only after that can the PCs of the network be switched on (the PCs must be set up so that they
get an IP address automatically). Alternatively, you can deactivate the network connections of
the PCs briefly and reactivate them afterwards. Thus, a new IP address is also retrieved from
the DHCP server.
• If you only use fixed IP addresses in your network, it is of course possible to set the NAS
adapter to its own, fixed IP address, too; this can be configured in the web interface of the NAS
adapter.
• Connect the RJ45 connector of the NAS adapter to your network switch via a 1:1-connected
network cable.
• Connect the round, low-voltage plug of the power supply unit with the relevant jack on the NAS
adapter.
• Put the plug-in power supply into a mains socket. Now, the power LED lights up.
Furthermore, the Link LED should light up or start flashing indicating a working network con-
nection.
• The NAS adapter can take up to 1 minute to boot, before the network functions of the NAS
adapter are available.
• Now switch on the PCs in your network. If they are configured so that they get the IP address
automatically, they are now assigned the IP addresses by the NAS adapter (in the basic set-
tings of the NAS adapter from the address range 169.254.0.x, whereby x = 2....254).
Manual search for the NAS adapter
If you are not able to establish a connection to the NAS adapter as described above in „Start up",
you should perform a reset first (see chapter „Resetting the NAS adapter to factory settings").
Then try again, as described in the chapter „Start-up", to reach the NAS adapter in the network.
It is recommendable (if not already done) to configure the PC in such a way that the IP address
is assigned automatically (at least, for the initial installation or for the setting of a fixed IP address
in the NAS adapter, see chapter „Start-up").
However, to do this Java must be installed. If this is not the case for your computer, you can find
a relevant installation program in the subdirectory „Java".
Following that, the program „SDisk.jar" can be started in the subdirectory „SDisk".
The software searches for the NAS adapter in the network and shows you its current IP address;
with the button „Connect" a connection to the web interface of the NAS adapter can now be
established. Alternatively, set an IP address from the same address range on the PC (e.g. NAS
adapter has 169.254.0.1 -> set the PC to 169.254.0.50).
Connection of a USB device
• Connect a USB storage device (e.g. an external 3.5"-USB-hard disc) to the USB port at the
NAS adaptor and turn it on.
• A printer can also be operated at the USB port of the NAS adapter.
For this, however, you should set the computer, which is used for the configuration,
to a fixed IP address (e.g. 169.254.0.100) or set it up for the configuration process
in a way that it receives the IP address automatically. Otherwise, an access to the
web interface of the NAS adapter might not be possible (e.g. PC is permanently set
to 192.168.1.100 - but the NAS adapter has e.g. 169.254.0.1 (when its own DHCP
server is activated) - in this case, an access is not possible!).
In order to search for the NAS adapter in the network manually, the CD contains a
software (Java-based) in the folder „SearchUtility". Herewith, the network can be
searched for the NAS adapter.
