Proper use of the RPM Adapter includes:
• Measuring and converting ignition pulses into an extra-low
measuring circuit voltage
• Connection to and operation with the GDM-705 (Item No.
12 20 25)
• The device must not be used for any purpose other than those
stated
• It is forbidden to take measurements in damp or wet surround-
ing conditions

1. Introduction, Presentation

The RPM adapter allows you to take measurements of the speed
of 2 or 4-cylinder engines and display the results directly on
Graphical Display Meter GDM-705 in revolutions per minute
(rpm). The RPM adapter clips onto an ignition lead from the
ignition distributor to a spark plug. The adapter picks up the
ignition signal/ignition voltage while the engine is running
through inductive coupling and converts it into a measurable
extra-low voltage. The adapter is connected to the GDM-705 via
the non-detachable instrument leads. When taking measure-
ments on a vehicle, especially while the engine is running, it is
crucial to observe the following safety instructions.
• The RPM adapter has been tested for electro-magnetic com-
patibility and meets the requirements of EC Guideline
89/336/EEC.
• The RPM adapter left our factory in a perfectly safe condition.
To keep the adapter in this condition and to ensure its safe and
reliable operation, the user must observe the safety instruc-
tions and warnings contained in these operating instructions.
• Measuring appliances must be kept away from children!
• On industrial premises, the accident prevention regulations of

the Association of Industrial Professional Associations with res-
pect to electrical systems and operating equipment must be
observed.
• In schools, training centres and DIY workshops, the operation
of measuring appliances and equipment must be supervised by
responsible, trained personnel.
