Web Interface
• The NAS adapter has its own web server integrated, which can be accessed via a web brows-
er. All the settings for the network functions can be made from here, such as formatting the
hard disk, administering the FTP etc.
In Internet explorer enter as described above: http://storage
• Following this, the user name and the password must be entered; the initial default settings are
both „admin" (to be entered without quotation marks).
If this input window does not appear, check the configuration of the PC and the
router. The PC must be configured so that it assigns an IP address automatically.
The NAS adapter must be connected to the router (or switch) via a 1:1 network
cable.
After turning the NAS adapter on, it takes about 1 minute before the start-up
process is completed. Only after this can the configuration pages of the NAS
adapter be accessed via the web interface.
If no router with DHCP server is available, the NAS adapter automatically activates
its own DHCP server!
• A connected hard disc (or also USB stick, or the like) must be formatted in the file format
„FAT32" to be able to operate with the NAS adapter.
For this purpose, a formatting function is integrated into the web interface, which can be used
to re-format the connected hard disc, if necessary. Please note that all data on the hard disc
will be lost during the formatting process - perform a back-up prior to formatting the hard disc!
Always format your hard disk via the web interface of the NAS adapter. The formatting func-
tion of Windows or the like, must not be used; the file system „NTFS" is normally used here,
which is not supported by the NAS adapter.
• A USB printer can also be operated with the NAS adapter.
We recommend in addition, to directly configure the printer on the PCs, which shall access the
printer that is connected to the NAS adapter, via the network later on.
Following that, the connection to the printer must be switched to a network connection in your
operating system.
Depending on the printer, not all functions may be possible (e. g. ink level display, scan func-
tion or the like)! With some USB printers, operation via the network and the NAS adapter is not
possible at all.
If possible, deactivate the printer's bidirectional data transfer (feedback on cartridge levels and
suchlike to the PC) in the driver.
On the enclosed CD, you will find an extensive English-language manual. At the
time of creation of this manual, the latter was located in the folder „UsersManual"
and there under „NAS Dongle".
To view the PDF file saved there, you need „Acrobat Reader" which you can down-
load free of charge at www.adobe.com
Resetting the NAS adapter to the factory settings
• Press and hold the „Reset" key.
• Disconnect the power supply from the NAS adapter. Wait shortly and then connect the power
supply to the NAS adapter again.
• Hold the „Reset" key for 30 seconds more and release it only after that.
• Now, the factory settings of the NAS adapter are activated again, all settings (except for SAM-
BA/FTP settings) will be lost!
Handling
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked nor
pinched.
• Operation is only permissible in dry, indoor areas. The product should not get
damp or wet! Danger of a lethal electric shock!
Avoid the following unfavourable environmental conditions at the installation loca-
tion and during transportation:
- Damp or excess air humidity
- Extreme cold (<0°C) or heat (>45°C), direct sunlight,
- Dust or flammable gases, fumes or solvents
- Strong vibrations, impacts or blows,
- Strong magnetic fields such as those found close to machinery or loud-
speakers
• Never use the product immediately after it has been taken from a cold room to a
warm one. The condensation that forms might destroy your unit. In addition, there
is a risk of a fatal electric shock.
Allow the product to reach room temperature, before connecting it to the power
supply and putting it to use. This may take several hours.
• Ensure that the insulation for the entire product is neither damaged nor destroyed.
• Check the product for damage before each use!
If you detect any damage, DO NOT connect the product to the mains supply! This
presents a danger to life!
• It can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if
- the device shows visible signs of damage,
- the device does not operate any longer and
- if the device was stored under adverse conditions for a long period of time or
- it has been subjected to considerable stress in transit.
• Any service or repair work must only be carried out by authorised personnel.
