Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Das Produkt ist zum Einsatz in PC-kompatiblen Notebooks mit PCMCIA-Einschub
vorgesehen und dient dort zum Anschluss an ein bestehendes Netzwerk.

Anschluss
Starten Sie Ihr Betriebssystem und warten Sie, bis es vollständig geladen ist.
Stecken Sie dann die PCMCIA-Karte korrekt herum in den PCMCIA-Port des
Notebooks ein. Lesen Sie ggf. die Bedienungsanleitung zu Ihrem Notebook, wie man
PCMCIA-Karten korrekt einsetzt.
Treiber-Installation
Windows erkennt die PCMCIA-USB-Karte automatisch. Legen Sie die
Treiberdiskette in das Diskettenlaufwerk Ihres PCs ein und folgen Sie allen
Anweisungen von Windows.
Windows 98SE/ME benötigt dann ggf. seine Installations-CD, um weitere
Komponenten zu installieren.
Tipps & Hinweise
• Zum Betrieb des PCMCIA-USB2.0-Adapters ist mindestens Windows 98SE
(Second Edition, Zweite Ausgabe) erforderlich. Das normale Windows 98 ist evtl.
nicht in der Lage, USB2.0-Geräte einwandfrei zu unterstützen. Falls Sie bei
Windows 98 Probleme beim Betrieb von USB2.0-Geräten feststellen, führen Sie
ein Update auf Windows 98SE bzw. ME durch.
• Es ist belanglos, welchen der USB2.0-Ports Sie zuerst benutzen, da die beiden
Anschlüsse gleichberechtigt sind.
• USB2.0-Geräte erlauben das Ein- und Ausstecken während dem Betrieb. Sie brau-
chen also nicht Ihren PC ausschalten, wenn Sie Geräte ein- oder ausstecken wol-
len (bei anderen Schnittstellen kann dies zu Beschädigungen führen, z.B. wenn
Sie eine PS/2-Maus während dem Betrieb ein- oder ausstecken).
Finden jedoch Datenübertragungen auf dem USB-Port statt, z.B. wenn ein exter-
nes Laufwerk Daten an den PC liefert, und Sie ziehen den USB-Stecker heraus,
könnte Windows abstürzen und evtl. auch andere Daten beschädigt werden!
Schalten Sie deshalb zuerst den PC ab, bevor Sie USB-Geräte abstecken oder den
PCMCIA-USB2.0-Adapter aus dem PC entfernen.
• Die USB2.0-Ports unterstützen selbstverständlich auch USB1.1. Deshalb können
hier auch herkömmliche "langsame" USB-Geräte angesteckt werden.
• Wollen Sie USB2.0-Geräte über einen USB-Hub betreiben, so ist ein USB2.0-Hub
erforderlich. Mit einem herkömmlichen USB1.1-Hub funktioniert der High-Speed-
Betrieb von USB2.0 nicht.
• Für einwandfreien USB2.0-Betrieb sind normalerweise keine speziellen "USB2.0-
Kabel" erforderlich. Herkömmliche "normale" USB-Kabel reichen vollig aus, aller-
dings müssen diese abgeschirmt sein.
Sollten Sie beim Betrieb von USB2.0-Geräten Übertragungsprobleme feststellen,
so können Sie versuchsweise ein USB-Kabel verwenden, das auf USB2.0-Betrieb
getestet worden ist ("USB2.0-certified").
• Im abgesicherten Modus von Windows ist kein USB-Betrieb möglich.
USB-Tastaturen und USB-Mäuse funktionieren deshalb normalerweise nicht (evtl.
bietet das BIOS Ihres Motherboards USB-Unterstützung für eine USB-Tastatur
bzw. -Maus).
• In älteren Notebooks funktioniert die PCMCIA-USB2.0-Karte evtl. nicht (sie wird
nicht erkannt), da sie unbedingt einen PCMCIA-Slot mit 32bit-Cardbus-Unter-
stützung voraussetzt!

Prescribed use
The product has been designated for the use in PC compatible notebook computers
with PCMCIA slide in-unit and is there used for being connected to an existing net-
work.

• At least Windows 98SE is required for operating (an USB2.0 operation with
Windows 98 may be impossible).
Connection
Start your operating system and wait until it is completely loaded.
Plug the PCMCIA card into the PCMCIA port of your notebook computer (make sure
that it is oriented correctly). If necessary, read the operating manual of your note-
book computer in order to learn how to put in PCMCIA cards correctly.
Driver installation
Windows detects the PCMCIA-USB card automatically. Put the driver disk into the
disk drive of your PC and follow all Windows instructions.
Windows 98SE/ME may then require its installation CD in order to install further
components.
Tips and hints
• At least Windows 98SE (Second Edition) is required for operating the PCMCIA-
USB2.0 adapter. The normal Windows 98 may not be able to support USB2.0 devi-
ces perfectly. In case you observe problems with Windows 98 when operating
USB2.0 devices, make an update on Windows 98SE or ME.
• It does not make any difference which of the two USB2.0 ports you use first as they
are equal.
• USB2.0 devices allow a plug and unplug during operation. Consequently, you do
not have to switch off your personal computer if you want to plug or unplug devi-
ces (with other interfaces, this may cause damages, for instance if your plug or
unplug a PS/2 mouse during operation).
In case, however, there is a data communication on the USB port taking place, for
instance if an external drive is transmitting data to the PC and you are pulling out
the USB connector, it may occur that Windows crashes and other data are dama-
ged! So switch off the PC before you unplug USB devices or before you remove the
PCMCIA-USB2.0 adapter from the PC.
• The USB2.0 ports also support USB1.1. That's why traditional, "slow" USB devi-
ces can be plugged, too.
• In case you want to operate USB2.0 devices by means of a USB lift, a USB2.0 lift
is required. The USB2.0 high speed operation does not work by means of a tradi-
tional USB1.1 lift.
• Usually there are no special "USB2.0 cables" required for a perfect USB2.0 ope-
ration. Traditional, "normal" USB cables are absolutely sufficient, although they
must be shielded.
In case you observe transmission problems when operating USB2.0 devices, you
can use, as a trial, a USB cable which has been tested for USB2.0 operation
("USB2.0-certified").
• The fused mode of Windows allows no USB operation.
That's why USB keyboards and USB mice usually do not work (maybe the BIOS of
your main board gives support to a USB keyboard or mouse).
• Maybe the PCMCIA-USB2.0 card does not work in older notebook computers (it is
not detected), as it requires a PCMCIA slot with 32bit card bus support!
